The Spy Who Shrunk Me

If you are looking for a truly unique game, you are looking for The Spy Who Shrunk Me. A fully voice-acted narrative adventure for people who are looking to play a game that tries something new with a game mechanic that I have not seen before. This game is very funny and offers a lot to the discerning player. Follow Audrey Smoothspy, noted superspy armed with a shrink ray who must infiltrate Russian infrastructure and stop the soviet army. If you want to try something gory, funny, and little outlandish, this may be the one for you. Let’s get into it.

Gameplay

This is a first-person action-adventure game that has you running around soviet era Russian office buildings with a shrink ray. Perhaps you encounter a guard that you will need to knock out, well that will be much easier to do when he is the size of a mouse. Flush him down the toilet or put him in a paper shredder, in either case, disappearing people is very fun in this game.

A love letter to the No One Lives Forever games, and sharing no small number of similarities to titles like Surgeon Simulator and I Expect You To Die, this title works hard to stand out in the genre, and successfully does so. You can shrink people and even yourself to make traversing some more difficult areas easier. It’s clever like that, allowing you to switch your perspective in such an interesting way.

Visuals

The visuals in The Spy Who Shrunk Me are quite good. Everything fits this interesting rubbery aesthetic that lends itself to a cartoony vibe, where you don’t feel too bad for throwing a guy into a paper shredder because they clearly aren’t real. The gore and visual comedy are also very well done, and they accompany that cartoon style very well. Works in VR as well so if you love that tech, give this a go.

Humor

I am a very big fan of well-done humor in games, and this is one of the few that got a legitimate chuckle out of me. With some of the sight gags you can arrange, humor in the writing, and well-delivered voice acting, you will find the game to be very amusing quite often. Although the game was far too short, I’m glad it felt that way, as it means I was truly enjoying myself. Perhaps I am simply too good at the stealth game genre as I have heard plenty of others say it was long enough for them.

The voice acting in this game is very good, and lends itself well to the humor of the script. The story focuses on that goofy, James Bond but silly type of movie we saw a lot of back in the 80’s. Yet don’t think for a second that this game doesn’t take anything seriously. With some stelar plot writing and multiple endings, you may find this game contains more to it than you initially thought.
