Lemnis Gate

Humanity’s last hope of survival lies within a time loop, and to access it, your operatives will have to activate the Lemnis Gate. In this innovative strategic FPS, you’ll have just 25 seconds to make or break your strategies, as you experience some of the most intense gunplay we’ve seen in an indie game in quite a while.

Based on its presentation alone, it’s clear that Lemnis Gate goes a step beyond your typical FPS affair. Its revolutionary combat system will keep players engaged in non-stop gunfights where wits have just as much importance as reflexes.

Fast Thinking

There’s a bit of strategy involved in any good first-person shooter. Quick thinking usually leads to victory in games like Counter-Strike Global Offensive, but those games are never outright marketed as “strategy games.” That’s where Lemnis Gate comes in, completely changing the battlefield.

Each round of Lemnis Gate takes place in a time loop: players have just 25 seconds to decide how they’re going to move their units, which enemies are they going to engage, and where will their units rest at the end of their turn. That’s right: this game is actually a hybrid between a fast-paced FPS and a turn-based strategy game like X-COM 2.

As past, present, and future converge, so do every player’s strategies. This revolutionary battle system might sound a bit confusing at first, but Lemnis Gate does a great job of explaining its basic mechanics and letting the player grow used to the concept of time loops. In the end, looping time and moving your units becomes as second nature as playing a round of Call of Duty.

Team of Yous

Lemnis Gate seems decided to overcome every one of its genre’s stereotypes, beginning with the way the co-op multiplayer works. While in most games you’d usually team up with other players, the time-bending shenanigans of the game essentially mean that you’ll be controlling each and every character on your team.

The game’s auto co-op mode gives you complete control over 5 different operatives, which means that two players can have a 10-people battle royale. Of course, being an online multiplayer FPS, many of the genre’s landmark modes are present in Lemnis Gate, usually with a time-traveling twist.

Other than the aforementioned 1v1 mode, there’s also a 2v2 contest, capture the flag, and search and destroy modes, just to name a few. Additionally, the game can be played either online or offline, as Lemnis Gate features a robust hot-seat local multiplayer that lets players play each other using a single controller.

Future Sight

Graphically speaking, Lemnis Gate is beyond competent. The Unreal Engine has proved to be one of the most versatile graphics engines available, and it seems that the team behind Lemnis Gate really knows how to make this popular engine shine.

If there’s one thing that’s not as polished as the rest of the game that would be some of the characters’ walking animations. Again, this is but a minor nitpick in an otherwise extremely competent game.
