Necromunda: Hired Gun

Ok, so Necromunda: Hired Gun is set in the Warhammer universe, but this is a game that is for anyone. Sometimes, you see a trailer for a game and you know right away that it is for you, well that was what happened to me and this game here. I say this as someone who has dabbled in the world of Warhammer for many years, but even without that license, this is a badass first-person shooter that would have grabbed my attention.

Enter Necromunda If You Dare!

The title of the game, Necromunda: Hired Gun is also the setting. This game takes place in a real hell hole of the Warhammer universe, the “Hive World Necromunda”. This is not the kind of place you want to end up at by accident, let me tell you that right now. I think it is an awesome setting for a game like this though.

From what I have seen, it is not all that story driven. However, the basics are that you are a bounty hunter and you will take on any job as long as it pays right and this place is a breeding ground for scum, monsters, gangsters, and other less than desirables that people are willing to pay you a lot of money to kill!

Your Bounty Hunter

One of the things that really got me excited about this game was the way that you create your own bounty hunter. Necromunda: Hired Gun lets you tinker with the way that they look which is fun, but it is the various abilities and upgrades that will enhance your bounty hunting abilities that really clicked with me.

For example, you can make it so you can run along walls, leap further, take more damage and you even have a grappling hook that can zip you around the area! It is great stuff and it is going to make hunting down your targets a great deal of fun. I am sure finding the perfect blend for your bounty hunter will have some trial and error, but that is all part of the fun. There is also a ton of weapons to select from and these can also be upgraded and enhanced as you progress through the game.

A Bounty Hunters Best Friend

I am a real sucker for a dog and Necromunda: Hired Gun lets you have a dog by your side, but this is a cyborg dog that is just as deadly as he is loyal. You can get various upgrades that will enhance your dogs’ abilities and he will assist you by hunting down targets and fighting in battle.

This Is An Indie Game?

I was shocked when I read that this was an indie game, I know that Games Workshop are pretty great at letting studios take a crack at their work, but the amount of polish this game has is pretty high for an “indie” game. I love the look of Necromunda. It is dark, violent and it just fits the whole Warhammer 40K world perfectly. I am sure that there may be a few “technical” hiccups along the way, but I do not see anything that would spoil the fun.

Pros:

• It is set in one of the more interesting areas of the Warhammer universe
• You can customize your bounty hunter and dog!
• There is an awesome arsenal of fun weapons to use
• Large open areas for you to hunt down your targets

Cons:

• I am not sure there is much of a story here
• Hopefully, the game is going to run nice and smoothly
