Engage your opponents and fire your weapons in Boundary, a thrilling multiplayer shooter that reaffirms that in space, no one can hear you scream. Shoot, dodge, and conquer as you float around a space station and engage your enemies using the low gravity in your favor.

Beyond its impressive art style and out-of-this-world setting (literally,) Boundary expands upon the gameplay elements that make team-based multiplayer shooters so great, adding an extra layer of fun thanks to its excellent physics-based combat mechanics and immensely satisfying gunplay.

Beyond the Boundaries

Unlike most of the sci-fi shooters out there, Boundary is perfectly content with a setting that resembles contemporary astronauts. That means that you won’t see super high-tech suits like the ones we got in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, but rather your standard white astronaut suit we all know and love.

That might sound like a boring design decision, but I have to disagree: considering that most developers on the market go for the whole “futuristic” vibe when designing their games’ spacesuits, I think the decision to put normal astronaut suits is an outlandish one that goes extremely well with Boundary’s setting.

These astronauts are known as Astroperators, a portmanteau of the words “astronaut” and “operator” that reveals this game’s Rainbow Six Siege influences. At its core, Boundary is a team-based shooter set in space where you and your friends engage in combat against the enemy team, featuring most of the standard gameplay modes I’ve seen before in this genre.

Space combat comes with its own set of unique movement opportunities. Enemies can approach you in a 3D plane, making the game feel more like a dogfighting simulator rather than your everyday first-person shooter.

If you’ve played a team-based shooter before, then you know that classes play an integral part in any engagement. That’s no different in Boundary, although there’s a high degree of player customization that allows for a more diverse approach to the classes system, and also helps make every Astroperator feel like a truly unique unit within the game.

Customize and Overcome

As I mentioned before, customization is one of Boundary’s strongest gameplay elements. Not only will players be allowed to customize their weapon loadouts and equipment sets, visuals and cosmetics are also part of the game’s robust presentation.

Every aspect of your Astroperator’s EMU suit can be freely customized to your liking. Not only are you going to get your own class with the equipment you choose: you’ll also be able to differentiate yourself from the other players on the battlefield.

The gunsmith system is similar to the ones we’ve seen in many Call of Duty multiplayer modes before. This means that your guns can be customized using equipment parts to make them fit your combat style: scopes, grips, barrels, and even ammo type can be changed to achieve the perfect balance between control and lethality.

Speaking of controls, a game such as Boundary demands responsive controls that can be used in the heat of battle. Even though the game manages to be perfectly controllable even in the more intense shootouts, the camera and the overall zero-g map design can be just a little bit disorienting at times.
