Dawn of Malice

Dawn of Malice is one of those games that while I liked it, I could see why it did not grab some other people. It ended up being something of a frustrating experience as I really wanted to love this game and it has what I think are some great ideas, but it never really gets out of second gear. It is one of those games where I feel like if the developer had some kind of editor or even did some kind of director's cut of the game that it could probably be an 8/10 game.

You Can Always Go Back Home

There is not much in the way of story in Dawn of Malice, but what is here manages to move things forward. We play as a young man who lives with his father, but our dear old dad has just taken a new job that is seeing him have to move to another country. We do not want to emigrate with him so we decide to head back to our hometown and live there. The story has a lot of choice in how we play the MC, I decided to play him as more of an asshole as that was fun, but you can be a nice guy if you want.

Always Go For The Goth Chick

I will say that on the surface Dawn of Malice has some interesting characters. There is this goth chick that was my favorite, but the female characters while they all look different and have their own style, do not have much depth to them as far as their personality goes. The problem with this is that some of the dialogue goes on and on, but the characters are not interesting so you do not care. The best character here is our alpha bro Chad who is based on the epic Chad meme that we all know and love.

Karma Always Comes Calling!

Remember how I said that Dawn of Malice had some good ideas and that I think that the game could have been better? Well, the gameplay is a prime example of this. At the end of the day, what we have here is a very basic lewd visual novel. We get to make choices, but the choices often come at the end of a very lengthy dialogue section which makes you care less about the choice you are making. However, there is a karma system here where I feel like the idea is that you work on your karma to make the girls like you more, but it never really led to anything so it felt pointless.

Show Me Just A Little Bit More

There was one reason that I kept playing through Dawn of Malice and that reason was the visuals. This is a fantastic looking game with some amazing bright hand drawn style artwork that gives the characters a ton of personality. I just love the goth chick, but all of the girls are good looking in their own way. I will say that the game could have done with some animation as the XXX scenes move from one image to another. Also, the weird internal shot of the guy finishing is just not needed at all!

Final Score: 7.5/10 (based mainly on the awesome art)

While I have to be honest and say that Dawn of Malice is not an amazing game, I do think that it is a pretty decent one. With just a little bit more work, this could be a damn solid lewd game I think. I like the premise of what is going on, there are some great looking characters and there could be something to that karma system.

• Some of the dialogue sections go on way too long
• The whole game feels like it needed more work

The experience that I had with Dawn of Malice was kind of interesting. This was one of those games that I so, so wanted to love. Do not get me wrong, I did not have a horrible time with it or anything like that. However, there were many things about the game that I thought if they were tweaked would have probably made me like the game even more. I think that the art style of the game is great and the best advice I can give you is to look at the screenshots and if you think the art is hot, give it a try.

Becoming A Chad!

The plot of the game does not make a ton of sense, but it does have a couple of interesting ideas. In Dawn of Malice, your dad has gotten a new job in another country, but you do not want to go with him. You decide to move back to your hometown and into a new house. What is neat here is that you can decide what your relationship is with the two female characters that live in the house. You can also decide what kind of guy you want to be which is basically, asshole or white knight simp type.

The Power Between Your Legs!

The characters in Dawn of Malice are very one dimensional and that can be quite hilarious. The best character is not actually one of the sexy girls, but your buddy Chad, who is literally Chad from the meme! There are multiple female love interests in the game, with the goth chick being my personal favorite. However, while at first, it may seem like they each have their own personality. At the end of the day, they have an irresistible urge to jump your bones and that is pretty much all the character development they get.

Total Drama

What actually drew me to Dawn of Malice was the way that the game looked. I am a huge fan of this hand drawn cell shaded art style thing that they have going on here. The characters all look great and I enjoyed the lewd content that the game offered. Even the less XXX stuff was done well here thanks to the clever use of “pervy” camera angles that let you get up close and personal with many of the characters. I will say that the art is the best thing that the game has going for it, so this will ultimately be what either makes you keep on playing the game or have you decide you have had your fill after ten minutes.

Who The Hell Cares????

What really brings Dawn of Malice down is the actual gameplay. To be fair, I have played many lewd visual novel games like this one here before. You get to make choices in this game, but they tend to come at the end of many long and drawn-out dialogue sections that you will probably just want to have on autopilot. Your choices do not feel like they matter all that much either. Plus, there is this weird karma system in the game that appears to lead to nothing at all!

Pros:

• I thought the art style of the game was cool
• The different female love interests look good
• The lewd content I came across was pretty awesome
• Chad, Chad is pretty cool!

Cons:

• The story is way too drawn out
• The choices and the karma feel like they add nothing to the story or the gameplay
