Endless Space 2

Amplitude Studios finally brings us Endless Space 2, the long-awaited sequel of the space strategy game. Seven years after the original game was released, the fans were asking for a sequel. And with all the great space-based games we've seen in the last years, it's only natural to want some more.

The first title introduced a lot of excellent mechanics to the genre and earned itself a great reputation. But can a sequel repeat that? Or is it even better than the first game? Well, it depends a lot on the player, but let's talk about it.

About the game

Probably one of the shortest and simplest ways to describe Endless Space 2 would be saying it's like Civilization but in space. What this means is that you'll have to choose one of the 8 available civilizations and start building your empire with it, in space.

Endless Space 2 has a certain plot or backstory, but in the end, you make the story of the game, and your decisions are super important to the entire development. This is a huge game and there's a lot to discover and explore, the sky is no longer the limit.

It's probably one of the biggest games in the 4X genre, and that says a lot already. In case you're not used to the 4X genre, it actually stands to EXplore, EXpand, EXploit, and EXterminate.

Infinite space?

While this game is certainly huge in every way, it's very different from games like No Man's Sky. As you know, in No Man's Sky, you play in a pretty much infinite universe, with thousands of planets. But here there are certain limits as to where the universe expands. Of course, to get to them you'd have to play for way too many hours to make it a problem.

Mastering this game is certainly not an easy task, it's pretty complex and there are way too many things to learn. Dozens of different mechanics and elements to understand will make it a big task to get into the game. But once you're done with that, it's an excellent game.

Review

Endless Space 2 is definitely one of those games where we absolutely recommend you play the tutorial at the beginning. This tutorial alone could take you about three hours to complete, and even after that, there are some things that you'll only learn when playing the real game. Find just so much to explore and find out that it would take you hundreds of hours to get a 100%. One of the most ambitious 4X titles out there.

• Graphics and Visuals: The visuals in this title are simply stunning. It has excellent artwork and design. It has a beautiful aesthetic and great animations.

• Gameplay: The gameplay itself is pretty much what you'd expect from a 4X game. But the universe is so huge and there's just so much to explore, that they are expanded to make justice to its name. It's incredible what they've achieved, scaling up basic mechanics to such a complex level. Every decision you make matters, and that's just ideal for this type of game.

• Sound: Thes soundtrack here is from outer space. It perfectly fits and completes the whole atmosphere of the game.
