Here it is folks, Festival Tycoon! Have you ever been stuck in the line at a festival for 5 hours and while you’re dying of overexposure to the sun you thought “I could organize a festival better than this?” Well, now’s your chance with Festival Tycoon. Jump into the fray and create your own festival forming empire. Start small and build your way up till you’re the biggest name in the industry and you run all those annoying family run businesses out of town. Here, in this line of work, progression is king and you have to do everything within your power to make it to the highest level. Let’s get into it.
So, the game starts off with you creating your own little festival. It’s nothing drastic, a small event that garners moderate interest. You have to use the games fantastically intuitive user interface to design exactly how you want it to look, make sure it has all the necessary amenities and that everyone has a great time.
Eventually, as time progresses, you’ll get bigger bands to come and play, you’ll get more notable sponsors on your side as your festivals become the only thing some 20-something-year old hippies will leave the house for.
Prove to yourself by using the games incredibly easy-to-use controls that you can create a festival where people don’t have to spend four days in a stolen disaster relief tent to survive the elements and inevitable alcohol poisoning. All jokes aside, this game is very fluid, it lets you set the angle of every building, use snap or freeform placements to make the best use of the available space.
One really fun aspect of the game is how you have to treat money as you would in any resource management game. Everything has to come out of your pocket or, more likely, the sponsors pockets. Use them to bankroll the festival and try to make it all back in ticket revenue to make everyone nice and rich.
Its your job to make sure that the guests are happy as they can review bomb your company and make business very difficult for you when they are unhappy. This game’s attention to detail is utterly brilliant and if you like games that challenge your business acumen, you’ll have a tremendously good time with this.
Keep on top of the buzz and make sure everything is clean, well presented and that there is no trouble. Like RollerCoaster Tycoon, Zoo Tycoon and Game Dev Tycoon, this game finds its footing in the genre with ease.
As I said earlier, the game has a great user interface which acts like you would expect it to. That being said, there is a little bit of a learning curve, make sure you pay proper attention and learn the ropes as you should. I went in blind the first time and did so badly but once you get a good idea of what you’re supposed to be doing, the whole game opens up.
This title has a beautifully charming art style. Everything looks so crisp and clean, well designed and easy to identify. They haven’t put too much attention into things that don’t really matter, and instead focus on creating a unique look that no other game captures in quite the same way.
If you are looking for another tycoon game to get way too into, this is for you.
