Indies’ Lies

Indies' Lies is a captivating roguelike deck-building game that takes players on a journey through a world in turmoil, where gods battle for supremacy. With a focus on crafting the perfect deck, discovering runes, and assembling a team of powerful partners, players are sure to get lost in the game's addictive gameplay and unique character stories.

With nearly endless gameplay possibilities at the players' disposal, deck building in Indies' Lies is one of the most robust I've ever seen. For fans of Slay The Spire, this is the kind of title that we've been waiting for – even if some things are lost in translation with its core mechanics.

Shaky Plot

While the game might appeal to lore enthusiasts, it might not be enough to entice other players to engage in the story mode. Moreover, the story mode feels like a chore with an excessive amount of text thrown in. The lack of any real motivation to progress the story leaves the player with a sense of tedium.

Indies' Lies boasts a story mode for each character, but I can't help but feel that the execution of it falls flat. The game tries to incorporate a deep backstory, but it ultimately falls short of providing a cohesive narrative.

Card Battles

The game offers a compelling turn-based battle system that keeps you engaged throughout the entire game. At the start of the game, you are given one hero and a basic deck of cards. As you progress through the game, you unlock new allies, each with its own unique set of cards that can be added to your deck. Additionally, you gain more mana per turn, allowing for more powerful plays.

One of the most interesting aspects of the game is the ability to change formations. By switching up the placement of your heroes, you can gain a strategic advantage in battle. This mechanic becomes increasingly important as you progress through the game and encounter tougher enemies.

Part RPG, Part Card Duel

What really sets Indies' Lies apart, however, is the sheer amount of fun you can have once you have a full team of heroes. With three allies on your side, each with their own cards and abilities, battles become a dynamic and exciting experience. It's a shame that the third ally is only introduced in the last stage, but the game remains engaging and rewarding nonetheless.

With new difficulties and cards/talents to unlock upon winning a run, there is always a sense of progression and new challenges to face. Additionally, the prospect of unlocking new characters adds to the already substantial replay value of the game. If you're a fan of roguelike deck-building games, Indies' Lies is definitely worth checking out.
