While Memoirs of a Battle Brothel is a very challenging game, I also found it to be a very rewarding experience too. There is no shortage of lewd RPGs out there right now, but I do think that this one here is doing enough to stand out from the crowd. Those of you who prefer tactics based RPGs are in for a real treat with this one. It also has a very cool sci-fi cyberpunk style story that I thought was pretty damn cool!

Keeping It All In Check

I am not going to spoil the story of Memoirs of a Battle Brothel as the story is one of the best things about this game, however, I will give you the basics so you know what kind of thing you are getting into here. The character that we play as lives in the city of MoonFall and this cyberpunk city has various factions that are all looking to be number one. We are what is referred to as a facilitator of the city and we are trying to keep order in the city, but as you expect, something goes down and we are caught right in the middle of it all. Anyone that enjoys cyberpunk stories will get into this, even if there are some translation errors that pop up from time to time.

Nice To Meet You!

Before you can start your adventure in Memoirs of a Battle Brothel, you need to create your character. I loved this aspect of the game and I got some pretty major old school Final Fantasy vibes when I was creating my character as there were many different options when it came to the class that I was and what my character looked like. I messed around with my character for a little while being I came up with one that felt just right for me. No matter what your style or play style is, chances are you will be able to create the perfect character for yourself here.

Some Of That Sweet Mode 7

I am a huge fan of what they have done with the visuals of Memoirs of a Battle Brothel. The game has a Super Nintendo/Game Boy Advance kind of style to it and that is awesome. It has this rather not quite top down, but almost isometric point of view and it is a cool effect. I liked how there were some scenes that had a kind of mode 7 vibe about them which I got a real kick out of. The pixel art is cool, but the characters are also brought to life with these incredible portraits that look amazing! I actually wish there was more of this, to be honest with you as it is so well done. The pixel art lewd content is something that I think is neat, but it is never something that I find all that hot if I am being honest, but the other lewd art truly is something spectacular!

RPG Master!

Memoirs of a Battle Brothel is a game that is made with RPG Maker and it is one of the tougher RPG Maker games I have played. The thing is, the game is not tough because of poor game design (although there are some steep difficulty spikes!) it is just the way the game is designed. You always know what to do on a mission, but the tactics based grid battles are very challenging and require you to grind to get stronger and also know what you are doing. Even from the start, this is a game that is very challenging! While that may be off putting for some, for me, it made the game a more rewarding experience.

I am a big fan of lewd RPGs and Memoirs of a Battle Brothel is one of the better ones to be released in the last few years. You can clearly tell that games like Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem were inspirations for this and I mean that in a very complimentary way. The game has a fun cyberpunk story and I got a real kick out of the retro art style as well as those gorgeous character portraits. While it is a very challenging game, it is still one that is easy for me to recommend to you.

What we have here with Memoirs of a Battle Brothel is a tactics RPG that is made with RPG maker. As someone who loves this style of game, I was very excited to try this one out and I am happy to say that it does not disappoint. I know that this has brothel in the title and it is a lewd RPG, but I really do think that if you took the lewd stuff out of this game, you would still have a solid little RPG that is a lot of fun to play.

MoonFall Is Home

The plot of Memoirs of a Battle Brothel is very well done. It has a cyberpunk meets magic thing going on and that is very cool to me. The main character is actually pretty cool as they are what is known as a facilitator of MoonFall. There is this guild called The Courtesans Guild that tries to stay on top of a rather uneasy powder keg of factions that are all trying to stake their claim on the city. It is pretty cool stuff and while there is the odd typo here and there, for the most part, it is very well done.

Be Your Own Man

Before you start your adventure in Memoirs of a Battle Brothel, you have to create your character and this was something that I felt was a lot of fun. You can pick from a number of different classes, each with its own perks, strengths, and weaknesses. You can also pick what your character looks like. The only weird thing is that you are always referred to as a male by the other characters (they call you sir) however, you can pick a female body.

A Change Of Perspective

99/100 a game made with RPG maker will have that top down style and I am usually fine with that. Memoirs of a Battle Brothel changes things by going for an isometric point of view and it works very well. The game in some ways reminds me of the SNES classic Shadowrun, but with a more 8-bit style of pixel art if that makes sense. There are also these gorgeous looking anime style renders which is awesome as they have made sure that each character has their own look as well as personality. The lewd content that is here is done very well and it is some of the better XXX pixel style art I have seen in quite some time.

Taking Out The Frustrations

While I was very interested to check out Memoirs of a Battle Brothel, I must admit I was a little worried about how well a tactics based RPG would play when made with RPG maker. While they mention Final Fantasy Tactics in the game descriptions, I get a more Fire Emblem vibe from things, only there is no permadeath here. The gameplay has you exploring, chatting, and taking part in turn based tactical combat that happens on a grid system. I like the way it eases you into this, but there is a pretty big difficulty spike where some enemies can pretty much kill you with just a few hits. While it is easy to get into, you do have to get good quite quickly if you want to get far in the game.

I was very impressed with what I experienced with Memoirs of a Battle Brothel. The game as I write this has not gotten a final update, but even though it is not complete it is 100 percent worth your time. I do feel that you have to have an interest in tactics-based RPGs to really appreciate this, but that is not necessarily a bad thing now, is it? What really kept me going was that fantastic story and cyberpunk setting the game had.
