What we have here with Memoirs of a Battle Brothel is a tactics RPG that is made with RPG maker. As someone who loves this style of game, I was very excited to try this one out and I am happy to say that it does not disappoint. I know that this has brothel in the title and it is a lewd RPG, but I really do think that if you took the lewd stuff out of this game, you would still have a solid little RPG that is a lot of fun to play.

MoonFall Is Home

The plot of Memoirs of a Battle Brothel is very well done. It has a cyberpunk meets magic thing going on and that is very cool to me. The main character is actually pretty cool as they are what is known as a facilitator of MoonFall. There is this guild called The Courtesans Guild that tries to stay on top of a rather uneasy powder keg of factions that are all trying to stake their claim on the city. It is pretty cool stuff and while there is the odd typo here and there, for the most part, it is very well done.

Be Your Own Man

Before you start your adventure in Memoirs of a Battle Brothel, you have to create your character and this was something that I felt was a lot of fun. You can pick from a number of different classes, each with its own perks, strengths, and weaknesses. You can also pick what your character looks like. The only weird thing is that you are always referred to as a male by the other characters (they call you sir) however, you can pick a female body.

A Change Of Perspective

99/100 a game made with RPG maker will have that top down style and I am usually fine with that. Memoirs of a Battle Brothel changes things by going for an isometric point of view and it works very well. The game in some ways reminds me of the SNES classic Shadowrun, but with a more 8-bit style of pixel art if that makes sense. There are also these gorgeous looking anime style renders which is awesome as they have made sure that each character has their own look as well as personality. The lewd content that is here is done very well and it is some of the better XXX pixel style art I have seen in quite some time.

Taking Out The Frustrations

While I was very interested to check out Memoirs of a Battle Brothel, I must admit I was a little worried about how well a tactics based RPG would play when made with RPG maker. While they mention Final Fantasy Tactics in the game descriptions, I get a more Fire Emblem vibe from things, only there is no permadeath here. The gameplay has you exploring, chatting, and taking part in turn based tactical combat that happens on a grid system. I like the way it eases you into this, but there is a pretty big difficulty spike where some enemies can pretty much kill you with just a few hits. While it is easy to get into, you do have to get good quite quickly if you want to get far in the game.

I was very impressed with what I experienced with Memoirs of a Battle Brothel. The game as I write this has not gotten a final update, but even though it is not complete it is 100 percent worth your time. I do feel that you have to have an interest in tactics-based RPGs to really appreciate this, but that is not necessarily a bad thing now, is it? What really kept me going was that fantastic story and cyberpunk setting the game had.
