Mob Factory

Sometimes gamers enjoy challenging themselves to the highest forms of combat. Other times—well—they want to play a game but feel a little lazy about it. Mob Factory is self-described as a game for lazy adventurers, and it pulls this off rather remarkably.

The game puts you in charge of a factory that will turn your enemies into useful products for your islands. The goal of the game is to catch enemies in your pathway and turn as many of them as possible into resources for your world.

How It Works

Mob Factory is a tower defense game with enemies attacking the tower on a set path. The player must defeat the monster, such as by placing crossbows or other weapons to destroy them. This is the nature of every tower defense game out there, and here Mob Factory is nothing new.

The twist is what happens after. Most tower defense games, such as Plants vs. Zombies or Tower Defense, have defeating the mobs as the only goal. If you don’t get them before they reach the tower, it’s game over. In Mob Factory, defeating all the mobs is only the first goal. The mobs, once defeated, drop items for the player. The player can then build their very own assembly line right on the enemy pathway to get those items to their factories.

In the tutorial, worms for example follow a path and need to be shot down before they reach the tower, but a conveyor belt can also be put down underneath the worms. Once they have died, the resources are then carried off to a building to be made into the desired product.

In the case of the worms, six worm sticks can be made into one coin, making the worms into a useful product. The more material you get, the more potions you can make. Potions allow the player to raise more floating islands and connect them together. New islands have new spawner types, which expands the materials the player has access to.

Cute Graphics

Besides the game itself, there’s a lot going for Mob Factory. It has cute, pixelated graphics, similar to early RPG games. It also has decent sound, and a color scheme that changes from floating island to floating island. This helps keep the game visually interesting, even as you progress farther in it. While the game doesn’t have the fanciest graphics, they fit well within the style and are consistent throughout the game.

Overall, this is a good game. If you enjoy tower defense games but are looking for a unique twist, or perhaps just want to kick back and relax with an easier playstyle, Mob Factory is right for you. The game has a light puzzle style feel to it, and the many different islands available makes for several hours of gameplay available.

While it may not challenge diehard tower defense players, the game isn’t meant to. It fits well into the niche of lazy gamers who just want to have fun without pressure.
