Redout 2

I thought the first game was pretty solid, but Redout 2 looks like it is the real deal and a game that many of us have been waiting for. It does not take someone with the detective skills of Batman to figure out what the inspiration for this futuristic style racer is! It is a throwback to the days of the original PlayStation and it is fast, futuristic, and best of all a ton of fun. I wanted to share my thoughts on the game with you fine folks today.

Earth, But Not As We Know It

The setting for Redout 2 is a futuristic Earth that is now mostly a post-apocalyptic wasteland! People get entertainment from high speed and dangerous races featuring these cool and fast hover vehicles. There is a deep single-player campaign here which is more than just winning a bunch of races. While there will be races for you to compete in there are also time trials, arena races, and even boss races too!

Proving Your Worth

While the single-player content in Redout 2 looks awesome, I am sure it will be the multiplayer scene where this game really flourishes. There is going to be “seasons” so it sounds like there will be regular championships and new modes added. You can compete against 11 other racers and I am sure it is going to be a very competitive kind of multiplayer scene.

Don’t “Wipe Out”

The developer has not been shy about talking about the likes of the Wipe Out and F-Zero series of games when talking about how Redout 2 plays. I would say that the series leans more towards Wipe Out than F-Zero, although, with all the loops and crazy tracks, I guess I do see the similarities to F-Zero GX from the Nintendo GameCube. It is fast-paced stuff and the kind of game that is easy to pick up and play. However, if you want to compete online, this is the kind of game that will require some real dedication to get good at it. There is also a customization aspect to the game too, you have 12 chassis, each one being unique and you can then customize that to your own play style.

Thumping Bass And Bright Lights!

A huge part of the appeal of the original WipeOut game was that thumping Euro techno style soundtrack and that is what they have gone with here in Redout 2. As well as having those sick beats to pump you up when you are racing. Visually, this is a very appealing game, it moves at a blistering pace and I just love the creative design of this messed up futurist Earth that they have created.

Pros:

• The single-player campaign actually has a lot of content
• The visuals and the music complement each other very well
• There is going to be a very competitive multiplayer scene here
• The racing is fun and easy to get into, but it is hard to master

Cons:

• If you are into this type of music, the soundtrack may be a bit annoying
• I do wonder if the multiplayer maybe a tad too competitive for poor little me!
