In another world, an elven city named Lennorien has been lost to evil goblins. An order charged with the task of preserving all knowledge was sent to the fallen city to try and preserve any remaining Elven knowledge but was never heard from again. You are charged with the task of saving them. The exquisitely hand drawn scenes paint a rich story told in a turn-based RPG style format. The storyline in Reverie Knights Tactics is unique in that your decisions throughout the storyline will determine the fate of the entire story.
A well-balanced game
Reverie Knights Tactics offers a lot to players. Characters are customizable, including their skills, attributes, and accessories. New items can also be crafted to help boost your current skills. The battle experience is also very well done, with each battle happening on a new grid.
With every battle a unique experience, you’ll never become bored or feel worried about repetition. The game also forces you react to the opponent’s strategy, requiring you to think ahead to win the game. If you’ve ever played Druidstone, imagine a hand drawn version and you’ll have a reasonable idea of what this game is like.
Unique Hidden Item Experience
One interesting feature of the game is that items are hidden in the backdrops of many of the backgrounds. This hidden item mechanic both draws attention to the background as you click different things in order to see if they reveal an item, while also adding a new element to the game. If you’re not into hidden item games this can get tedious, but for most people it adds a feature to the game.
Story needs work
While the game is clearly story driven, the story needs more polish. Dialogue is stilted and seems half-finished in the prologue. It’s clear that some thought was put into the story, but more needs to be done if it is to grow from a simple strategy game into something with a real story as well.
Reverie Knights Tactics is still in Early Release, which means there is more room for it to grow. As it stands now it is clear the game needs more polish before it can be a truly revolutionary game, but all the right bones are there. The game has a lot going for it. It has a storyline, there are a lot of features that provide entertainment and value to the player, and the strategy parts are very well done. With work this game could be a truly amazing game, and the potential for more updates is there. While the early release may leave you frustrated, new evolutions of the game may be entertaining to play.
Bits of storyline are also very long, with the actual battles being relatively fast and more entertaining. The game seems to want to be a visual novel, but hasn’t quite made it there yet.
