Rogue Lords sounds like a game that represents a pit of chaos. In a way, it sort of is, but the game mechanics allow for far more organized approaches than what's considered chaotic. The game is a roguelike spinning off the popularity of the genre. However, this time, you'll take on the role of the devil. It's time to enact revenge on the forces of good!

The devil won't do it alone, either. You'll command a force of evil geniuses through a series of dungeons, events, and combat to deliver your swift vengeance. It's not often players are thrown into the role of a pure evil being, out to commit atrocities against those who want the best for mankind. But the whole concept seems deliciously appealing!

The Detail is in the Devil

The roguelike genre has become increasingly popular over the last few years. Perhaps it's because of its mechanical versatility on nearly every playable device. That paired with the potential to craft some stunning visuals, fluid animations, and supercharge your battle skills without too much pressure. Not to mention a linear narrative to the walkthrough!

Rogue Lords offers everything that a typical roguelike says on the tin. It looks beautiful, the turn-based battle system is excellent, and the evil narrative is intriguing. So what's the advantage of playing this game over others in the genre? The truth of the matter is that Rogue Lords just hits a little differently. Why? The fluidity of the game feels refreshing compared to others.

Not only that, the encouragement for players to take the reigns on their progression feels good, too. You'll be able to choose between 9-characters to make up a 3-person battle team. Each has strengths and weaknesses that combine to overcome the more challenging battles. There's a grand sense of satisfaction will each combat event, not being repetitive and feeling rewarding when you win.

While Rogue Lords looks and feels beautiful - it does find some nuisances in gameplay. Minor issues come from Moving around the world outside of combat - the control schematics are more troubling than they need to be. However, considering that most of the game is made up of turn-based events, it does remain a backwater problem. All in all, Rogue Lords is delightful.

Souls and Sorcery

The fluidity, visuals, and versatility of Rogue Lords create an excellent roguelike experience for a player. From ransacking novice foes to using your brainpower to defeat more challenging enemies, there aren't many moments where you'll feel uninspired. It's almost like somebody pumped steroids into the similar Darkest Dungeon and gave it an evil twist.

• Every battle feels engaging
• You can't help but love the concept of being evil

Cons:

• Control schematics are a bit frustrating
• Making sense of a team's skills for battle can be challenging
