Released in 2005, Teen Titans for the Game Boy Advance is based on the awesome hit TV show based on DCs most awesome crime-fighting team, take that Justice League! The Teen Titans game that was released on the PS2, Xbox and Game Cube is a fantastic 3D action game, but for the GBA we have a side scroller.
When There’s Trouble You Know Who To Call!
One thing that I think is really cool and I say this as someone who loves the show is that the game has a great story. It is clearly not as cinematic as its big brother, but the story is cool and told through text. The Teen Titans need to put a stop to Brother Blood as well as some other villains from the show. The presentation of the game is very solid. As a 2D game, Teen Titans for the Game Boy Advance is really solid and looks far better than people give it credit for. Recently I played this on the Game Boy Player and even blown up these sprites look great. Speaking of sprites, I like how large and detailed they are. The soundtrack of the game is very fitting and it gets you all kinds of jacked up as you play.
Booyah!
As you are probably expecting to hear, Teen Titans is a side-scrolling fighting game. You can play as any one of the Titans. Robin, Cyborg, Star Fire, Raven and Beast Boy. You will actually need to play as them all as they each have their own special moves and certain sections of the game require the use of a specific move. The game is a bit of a button masher and at five levels (with multiple stages each) the game is not exactly short. Still, for a handheld game, it actually works very, very well. I found this to be the kind of game that is great for pick up and play. It is perfectly suited as a handheld game, but as I said I played this on the Game Boy Player and actually beat it in one sitting as I was having such a great time with it. You will be going left, right, flying, fighting and everything else you would expect the Titans to do.
If I am being brutally honest with you guys you could probably knock a full point off the score, I give this if you are not a huge Teen Titans fan. For me, this game captures the show perfectly and I feel that it is a fine game in its own right. The action is fast-paced, you can play as all the Titans and it is also good looking with a rocking soundtrack. This is one of the better superhero games on the console in my opinion.
Pros:
- You can play as all five Titans
- Each character has special moves
- Captures the feel and style of the show very well
- The soundtrack is pretty rocking
- The sprites are big and chunky
Cons:
- Not a ton of replay value
- Might not be as appealing if you are not a fan of the show
