Competition leads to better games, that's for sure. Almost everything that is currently sweeping the PC and consoles is built on a trial and error basis in which a thousand and one IPs in the market have competed. Today we're talking about Undecember, one of the interesting and latest games that takes aim at one of Blizzard's most popular games. But it also takes a lot of inspiration from that game series and is trying to do it again, but making it good this time. At least that's what the developers were hoping for. But taking aim at one of the huge names in the industry it's not an easy task, and many things can lead an attempt like this to a complete failure. So, what is Undecember all about? Well, let's talk about it!

About the game

Undecember is a free game with impressive graphics that perfectly imitates the grim dark tone of the Devils, where gloom, blood, and a world doomed to darkness haunt us to not let us breathe a second calmly.

Although the resemblance to the work of Blizzard is unquestionable, in the first few hours of play one already realizes that the resemblance is limited to the inspiration, because at the controls we are facing something else with its personality. To give you an example, the first level gets us right into the action without asking because it puts us in construction on the backs of two giant creatures where all the action takes place.

The game will have three classes available (at least for the moment): warrior, archer and mage. The differences in the style of play are notorious, but, even so, one of the hallmarks of Undecember will be the opportunity to jump from one to another as we wish. We will not be tied to a specific class until the end of the adventure.

Is it really "free"?

All of the above sounds very hopeful, doesn't it? It certainly is, but we must also keep in mind that this is not a full-price game, like Diablo, but belongs to the line of free-to-play games like Lost Ark or Path of Exile. If these games have taught us anything, it's that it shouldn't be a problem, but Undecember seems to be betting on some mechanics that will be restricted to paid options.

Whereas the game does not make it mandatory for you to buy into the microtransactions part of the entire thing, it does make darn sure it is much more enjoyable if you do. Making you grind for hours and hours to get slight progress and that's if you at least make any progress at all.

Review: 7.5/10

Undecember comes from LINE Games, and we think they did a great job at taking a shot into the Diablo-like games. But they went ahead and followed Blizzard's mess when it comes to the microtransactions and the in-game purchases.

7.5

However, if we somehow keep that apart from the rest of the game, you'll encounter a solid and refreshing take on a beloved genre.

Pros:

  • Looks good enough
  • Well made
  • Has some fun features
  • Lots of content

Cons:

  • In-app purchases are too strong
  • Microtransactions ruin the whole experience
