Vampire's Fall: Origins RPG

Created by gamers with a burning passion for the Fantasy RPG genre, Vampire’s Fall: Origins is a wonderful homage to old-school gaming on the indie level for true fans. The game begins with a brief tutorial, followed by the onslaught of your village. Dark already, right? Well you will have your time for vengeance don’t you worry. The game has been created by developers who clearly love the genre and the style of old 2D, Fantasy RPG game and it shows.

Although graphics and frame rate can cause mild obstructions in the gameplay experience, where this game thrives is in attention to detail. The storyline was elegantly crafted with a creative touch, side quests aren’t boring tasks which must be done to simply advance to the net stage and for the fans who love going off on their own, the exploration aspect of this game is equally well thought out. For anyone considering their next game purchase, if you have nostalgic memories of playing similar style games of old, this is the next game for you.

Gameplay

As with most RPG games there is plenty of avenues for you to progress your characters skills and abilities. Through side quests you will find a number of unique, intriguing adventures where you will face adversity in the name of strengthening your characters abilities. Within this turn based tactical combat throughout the game, players have three skills to choose from: Control (magical ability), Weapons, and Instinct (Vampire attack).

While all three may be necessary for you to make it to the very end of your quest, strengthening each independently is where the strongest warriors will be made. Similar to the Twilight vampire’s fictitious morality decisions, you can choose to bite humans or rats to quench that vampiric thirst. At certain points within the game you may find yourself stuck in an un winnable scenario, no need to fear though because the developers have added an ‘Unstuck’ option which will allow you to retreat to safety to recoup.

In Game Features

While the storyline and gameplay stand high in terms of enjoyability and authenticity, the game can lack certain elements which hurt its overall score in players minds. The loading screens really hurt the momentum of the storyline in certain areas, slowing things down which sucks any momentum from players minds. Also through playing on the Nintendo Switch gamers find unwelcome lags and lack of frame rate which results in glitches throughout the game.

While these can be overlooked, it’s sad to consider what this game could have been if these minor bugs could be fixed. The audio for the game however is a welcome addition, heightening the atmosphere of battle and keeping your pulse high as you play through. In terms of similar games think an indie 2D version of The Elder Scrolls.
