Victoria II

Victoria II is an amazing strategy game, that was released back in 2010. In the game, players get to take control of a state during the 19th century and give you control of this state’s political, technological, economic, military, and diplomatic aspects. You will also be able to go and colonize other places but to be able to do that, you will first need to make sure that your state is doing well enough so that you can colonize other places. This game will test how well you can strategize and will reward you for taking good care of your state.

Expand Your Control

The game takes place between 1836 to 1936, and you’re able to choose between 200 playable nations to begin your story. Victoria II’s main focus is on strategy, and while you will need to engage in battle at certain moments, paying close attention to your state economy, and creating a well-established production line and trading operation with other places will help your state grow stronger and faster. The game has a complex market system, as there are over 50 types of factories and resources.

And while the economy is extremely important, you must not forget about taking care of political issues. There are 7 ideologies in the game, and 8 types of governments, so it is important to try and maintain a good relationship with other countries. But you’re free to choose how to deal with other countries, either working together with them and trying to maintain peace, or you can choose to try to do your own thing. Whatever your decision is, be sure to do your best to keep your population happy, as they can choose to revolt.

Go To War

War is inevitable, and you will need to battle to be able to expand your territory, as some places won’t simply allow you to take over their territory. Victoria II isn’t mainly focused on combat and war, but sometimes the battle is hard to avoid. When attempting to capture an enemy territory, you will need to take control of your army. In the beginning, you will need to overwhelm your enemies with force, but as you expand your power, and develop your technology, the number of troops you will use in battle will decrease. Also, before attempting to control territory, be sure to use scouts units for reconnaissance, as it will give you a bonus, and help your capture the territory.

Summary

Victoria II is a great strategy game, but it is almost 12 years old already. However, it is still a fun game to play, especially if you’re into this genre of game. And while it hasn’t been confirmed yet, there is a chance that Victoria III will be released this year.
