A Guidebook of Babel

A Guidebook of Babel is a strange adventure game that revolves around the butterfly effect. The plot-driven adventure surrounds you changing history in subtle ways after you have passed into the afterlife—if you want to. How the game completes is entirely up to the player. The game opens in the afterlife with the player on a ship called the Babel. The Babel is fueled by memories. Yours are taken in order to fuel its journey.

Multiple Perspectives

There are other passengers on this ship, and they are glad to pass the time by telling you their story. As you listen to each unique tale, you may discover that those stories are intertwined. Unraveling their tale is a key part to your success in the story.

As you learn more about each character, you will have choices to make along the way. No matter how small the choice may seem, just like the butterfly flapping its wings the results can mean huge shifts for your storyline.

Cute Graphics

The graphics for the story are 2D in a muted color palette similar to older games like Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase. The color scheme and artwork indeed makes you feel like you are playing a classic game, and helps support the whimsical feel of the game. The game also has an original soundtrack which will be released separately if you wish to listen to the music outside the game.

Tons of Quests and Puzzles

The game is at its heart a puzzle game. As you pass through Central Station and come into contact with many different characters, you’ll find some of them are trapped and need help. Each one of these trapped characters are connected in some way and have their own puzzles and quests for you to embark on. Helping them usually involves going back into the past and making a tiny change to correct the trouble they are in now. Players do this by rewriting their history with the pen and notebook available in their inventory. Making changes often results in an inter-linked tragicomedy, but it’s interesting to see how these changes reflect in the characters’ lives.

Unique Reasoning System

The game also has a cute way to help you keep track of the game and decide what you need to do next. It features a simple notebook with icons that can be rearranged in different ways. The reasoning system helps you connect the dots on what’s happening around you and form a conclusion.
