Can It Really be 25 years since Another World first graced us with its presence? A classic of its time, this updated version is an exact replica of the original, albeit with greatly ramped up resolution options.
If you missed it first time around, Another World is a side-scrolling action/adventure platform game in which you're transported to - you guessed it - another world. Every screen teems with danger, meaning you must run, swim, jump and shoot your way out of trouble.
Merciless to a fault, this is one brain-bleedingly challenging game that punishes even the smallest mistake with instant death, a factor that'll either spur you on or have you grunting with dissatisfaction as you reach for the Call Of Duty 2 CD.
Perhaps Another World's strongest feature is its context-sensitive scenery, which allows you to swing from vines and swipe dropped enemy weapons. It might be old, but this is one title that's aged remarkably well. If you're looking for a cheap, fun challenge, it's well worth taking a quick trip down Nostalgia Lane.

Another World is a video game also known as Out of This World in North America or Outer World in Japan, which was released in 1991. The game was developed by Eric Chahi and sold many copies back when released. The game was considered an innovation for its cinematic effects in graphics, sound and cut scenes. In the cut scenes the characters were communicating through facial features, gestures and actions.
Due to its popularity the game was published on other platforms as well. The game was available for Amiga, Atari ST, Apple IIGS and MS-DOS. The game is today available on modern platforms, such as computers, consoles and mobile phones, thanks to several game engine recreations. An anniversary game was released for Microsoft Windows in 2006, at the 15th Anniversary Edition.
The game follows the story of Lester Knight Chaykin, who is a young and athletic physicist. He arrives at his headquarters in his Ferrari during a violent thunderstorm and gets right away to work on his experiment using a particle accelerator. But before the particles reach their destination, a lightning strikes Lester’s laboratory and interferes with the accelerator. This causes an unpreventable teleportation which takes Lester to an alien planet.
Lester is now in a dangerous situation and after he manages to evade some animals, he becomes the slave of an alien race. He is also taken to a prison and is put behind bars. However, later on he manages to escape thanks to another captive alien, and has to continue his pursue of evading whilst travelling through dangerous environments. He has to fight lots of enemies and solve puzzles to survive natural hazards.
Though in the end of the game he is severely damaged by a guard, he saves his alien friend from death and they both manage to escape off the planet.
The release is a platform game. The player has to use the keyboard and gamepad to make Lester run, jump, attack or perform different actions. In the beginning of the game the main character doesn’t have weapons and though he can kick small creatures, he is vulnerable to other hazards. He gets his first weapon after managing to escape from the prison together with his alien friend Ally. Throughout his journey he will earn more modern weapons which will help him a lot during his pursue to escape the planet.
The game was fairly popular back when released. The versions for Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and Sega Mega Drive/Genesis were awarded the Most Innovative Game of 1992 by the popular publication Electronic Gaming Monthly. Eurogamer called the game as one of the most visionary and memorable of its time. Critics on GameSpot rated the game with 8.7, while users voted it with a total average of 8.2 out of 10.
Another World is also know as Out of this World – American title.
Originally released to European audiences as Out of This World, Another World is a platform puzzler that was met with a lot of praise from the press and public.
You play as Lester, the young physics professor, who suddenly finds himself in a strange alien world after a lightning struck his particle experiment. Now he should fight for his life, first with his bare hands, then with a gun he finds.
The background story is negligible as the focus of the game is entirely upon action and thinking, requiring players to use their head as well as their itchy trigger fingers. Stuck in the shoes of a man who's trapped upon an alien world with no apparent way to get home, players must survive the monstrous denizens of the land and overcome the terrifying obstacles that lie in their path. But what gives him courage is the fact he is not alone. One of the aliens, who together with him escapes from the prison, helps him on his dangerous quest. Friendship can overcome all the obstacles.
Most of the player's time is spent running and jumping from place to place, occasionally having to attack, but it is necessary to think before acting in this game. If actions are not properly timed or played out it means certan disaster, so you'll wind up having to try many scenes over and over to finally complete them.
Another World is an adventure game, where the adventuring element is concealed behind what looks like a typical platform shooter. The gameplay is based mainly on physical and environmental puzzles. Each enemy requires a different strategy, and often there is only one way to solve the problem.
Another World is divided into levels, each one of which can be accessed by typing a code you learn after having completed the level. The game features vector graphics and animated cut scenes.
Another World puts you in the middle of a story about action, adventure, and inter-dimensional travel. You will have to avoid laser blasts, boulders, and monsters. All of the action comes to life with real-time polygonal graphics. The animation is created with a rotoscoping process. A blend of digitized sound effects and music create the perfect mood for the game.
