ARC Raiders

It's incredibly refreshing to see new game IPs coming from new studios and new developers. For a while, some of the most popular games have come from the same familiar faces, and it's hard to break into that scene when it's so well-established. So, even though there are countless indie developers, it's nice to see mall developers working with the big names to bring something new into the game world. Of course, these developers are not new, and they used to work for DICE in some incredible games, but the company IS new, and Embark Studios, founded by Patrick Söderlund, is releasing ARC Riders.

So, we know that these developers have many years of experience developing some huge games in the past, but now that they are no longer in DICE, are they able to get the same results? It's not the same working with a well-established developer company than to go with a new, freshly starting one. But as usual, what matters the most is the people working there. So, what is this game all about?

About the game

ARC Raiders takes players to what appears to be a post-apocalyptic world in the distant future, where the remnants of civilization must join forces against a common threat: ARC, "a mechanized and ruthless menace from space. Users will get into the shoes of a squadron of Raiders, a rebel group that fights to protect their home from these enemies.

Embark Studios wanted to emphasize the idea that this is a title to be enjoyed by teams: "As a Raider, you know that defeating ARC requires more than just aiming and firing a gun and more than just one person trying to be the hero. When ARC is around, lone wolves never get very far."

With this project, the developers wanted to go further and give a twist to the third-person shooter genre: ARC Raiders aims to be more than just reloading a weapon with the corresponding ammunition, and aims to provide combat that will require users' creativity. In addition, as we have said, the gameplay relies entirely on teamwork to emerge victorious: "Together you can defeat these faceless enemies. Fight, flee, and hone, work shoulder to shoulder with your squad".

Throughout the games, we will be able to explore the so-called "ruins of the past", which will provide us with tools and artifacts that will help us to finish off the enemy. We will have to implement our tactics on the fly, using the scenery and physics to our advantage whenever possible. "If you and your team play well together, someday the stars may once again become beacons of hope, instead of harbingers of oblivion."

A big change

Even though this game was made by developers that worked at DICE, ARC Riders are not very similar to Battlefield games. yes, it's a shooter, but starting with the POV, this game is in the third person. And what's even more, there's much more fantasy in here. The open-world exploration and the cooperative gameplay are something unique. It's hard to find a game to compare this to in the current game world. But it's certainly a new trend we hope to see grow in the future, it looks really exciting.

Preview: 9/10

The game looks beautiful, and the gameplay is really good, it's overall a great-looking game. As we mentioned, not often do we see games like this one, and it would be amazing to see this grow as a genre of its own.
