Cabela’s African Safari is much older than we usually discuss, but it is certainly one of the most iconic hunting games in video game history. Cabela’s is better known as an outdoor department store with locations all across the United States, but they used to make video games too. There were always different themes and locations for their games but the main theme was always hunting animals. As the title gives away, this game is located on the African Safari which means you are hunting animals like Rhino, Lions, Gazelle, and much much more.
What Makes This Game so Great?
Now Cabela’s African Safari was a great game for multiple reasons that we will discuss now. First of all there are simply not that many hunting games available on the market and Cabela’s always did a good job making the game high quality instead of simply being there to make money. What also made the game great is the fact that it was available on so many different consoles from the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 to PC and even the old PlayStation Portable (PSP) for the lucky people that had those. This made the game widely accessible to everyone that wanted to play it which fans always appreciate. Lastly, the game was both single player and multiplayer. Of course being in 2006 the online multiplayer options were few and far between, but this did not mean you were limited to playing it by yourself at home. By simply plugging in another controller you could play multiplayer with your friends in the comfort of your own home. This made for some fun hunting adventures if you ask us.
Who Published this Video Game?
The gaming company that helped develop and publish the game was FUN Labs for Xbox 360 and Activision for the PlayStation entities. Of course with anything PlayStation related it is safe to say that Activision was involved, but FUN Labs is just as credible of a company despite their smaller projects. Now the biggest complaint about the game was that the Xbox 360 version was much worse than the PlayStation 2 version, so take that with a grain of salt.
As for our final verdict here we have to give this game a ranking of 8/10. The game itself is not too complex but it is still a lot of fun and one of the best hunting games that money could buy at that point. Even in today’s age this game would be fun to play either on your own or with friends. We could talk about this game forever, but we have included a list of the important pros and cons in the outline below. If you prefer fishing, try such a game as Fishing Planet.
