Coreborn: Nations of the Ultracore is an upcoming (or it may even be out of early access by the time you read this) online game that I am very pumped up for. I wanted to do a little preview of the game to talk about some of the aspects of the game that have me excited and why me and a few of my friends all have the day off work when this thing fully launches so that we can play it together!

Sorgoth The Devourer

Look, with a name like Coreborn: Nations of the Ultracore, you always knew that this dude was going to be bad news. The world that this game is set in is called, Tormentosia, and it was divided by various races, but when Sorgoth rose up to take it all over, the nations banded together to fight off him and his minions. Look, this is your standard fantasy style story, but I think that it has a lot of charm to it and I like how it is all about getting players to band together to fight a big bad!

A Real Family Affair

One thing I will say about Coreborn: Nations of the Ultracore is that this is the kind of game where you have to play with other people. “Survive with your friends” is actually one of the tag lines of the game! The idea is that you build a thriving homestead for you and your friends, growing as you progress through the game, but of course, the forces of Sorgoth still want this land for themselves so you will be required to defend it at all costs! There is a real sense of community at play here where becoming someone that is important to the community is the goal (or at the very least should be!) of every player. Each player will have a chosen profession that they can improve so that they are a vital part of their community.

Heading Out For Adventure!

You may start off with a rather modest bit of land to call your own in Coreborn: Nations of the Ultracore, but the idea is that you will venture out on quests and adventures with your friends. The goal being that you will start to claim back more and more of the land from the forces of Sorgoth. Also, finding resources and managing them so that you can get better equipment and build your homestead is a major reason as to why you will be heading out on adventures with your friends as you gather resources and lay waste to the evil forces that stand in your way.

That Online MMO Feel!

One area that I think does need some work is the presentation. I am not saying that Coreborn: Nations of the Ultracore is a bad looking game at all, but it has that very standard fantasy MMO kind of vibe about it and I have seen it look a little rough in the animation department. To be fair, this is a very early access game (as of me writing this) and I have no doubt it will be a smoother experience as it moves along development. I just wish it had a bit more flash and extravagance about it as that would probably get me and my buddies even more pumped up to head on a quest to find resources or kill a bunch of enemies!

I know that it is very early days and that most MMO games get better as they go on, but I still feel like Coreborn: Nations of the Ultracore has a ton of potential. The whole PvE aspect of the game is what has me and my friends excited about. One of my friends hit the nail on the head actually as he said that this game gave him vibes like the live action Dungeon & Dragons movie that came out earlier this year and this will be like we are going on quests like that! I think this could be a lot of fun and if you are into this kind of thing, I highly recommend you take a closer look at it.

Pros:

  • I love the idea of playing this game with my friends
  • The fantasy setting has a lot of potential
  • I liked the idea of playing a role in my online community
  • This could be the kind of game that is very addictive to play!

Cons:

  • I wish that the presentation had a bit more spectacle to it
  • If I am being honest, if I did not already have friends who wanted to play this, I am not sure I would want to play it on my own
