Dog Brew is a whimsical game set on a tropical island. You play a charming yet clueless young pup who has decided to open a brewery in order to pay off some debts. With a looming, $300,000 debt hanging over your head, you embark on a beautiful journey brewing beer.

Dog Brew has been a smash hit in the two weeks it has been available to play. With over 1,000 positive reviews on Steam, it’s no secret this is one of the most popular indie games to be seen on Steam in a while.

Cute Artwork

The artwork in Dog Brew is very similar to Animal Crossing. It features chunky graphics and deceptively simple artwork that feels as charming as the storyline itself. All of the characters have unique details that help them stand out.

Although the game has the same relaxing gameplay style as Animal Crossing, and similar graphics, it’s clear this is a game meant for adults, with adult themes.

Simple but Sweet Storyline

The game is at its core, trying to pay off debts by brewing beer. Your character knows how to brew beer and can craft different types using different fruits and vegetables. There’s a bit more to the story than just harvesting crops and converting them to beer—it’s also a story about community.

There’s a rich cast of characters on the island, and they all need help with various tasks. These tasks will help you progress in the game, so getting them done is important. Some of the tasks are a bit questionable, such as assisting a child in purchasing a pack of cigarettes. Other tasks are more compatible with the relaxing farming theme, such as helping with gardening.

Although building relationships and brewing beer is a major portion of the game, there are also minor mini games like gambling available.

Quick Fixes

The game has only been open a few weeks, but already the developers have proven to be active and helpful in fixing issues. They have already fixed two bugs that caused the game to get stuck in key places.

An active developer is a great sign in a game because you know if you do come across an issue it will likely be fixed quickly.

Customization Available

Although this game has a very minimalistic approach to graphics, they do offer some cute customizations in the form of hats for your character. There are about a dozen adorable hats to choose from, ranging from a simple cap to a pirate’s hat.
