Most games fit neatly into a genre, but ENA: Dream BBQ truly breaks the mold. The game is a combination of wild fun and extreme insanity all rolled together, for the entire game. Does it make sense? No. Not at all. Will you enjoy it? Most likely. The game roars to life with retro artwork that looks like it was designed in the early 90s. The game has a huge cast of unusual characters, choices to make, and things to do.

The game plays like a fever dream however, so don’t attempt to make since of it or try to put together a formal story. Everything about this game is weird, wild, and will leave you scratching your head. This game plays like a retro, anime version of Goat Simulator, so expect nothing except for things to get very strange, very fast.

Inspired by a Web Cartoon

ENA: Dream BBQ gets its roots from a web comic about Ena. The bizarre world is probably a reference to various mental health disorders, such as bipolar. The game does a good job of holding true to Ena’s personality, and the bizarre world she interacts with.

Ena’s split face shows her dual personalities. This matches what goes on in the web comic. One side of her is confident, while the other is more shy. Although this is similar, the Ena from the web comic isn’t quite the same as the Ena from the game.

Multiple Endings

What happens on your adventure changes depending on what you do as you are searching for the bathroom, interacting with doors, or chatting with the other characters. It’s up to you to find all the different endings, but it’s not clear how to get the different endings due to how unusual the game is. It’s interesting to note that no matter which ending you get, nothing awful really happens. Even the “bad” ending isn’t really bad, just different.

Short Game

ENA: Dream BBQ is incredibly short, possibly due to the fact that it is free to play. The game can be completed in just a few hours, with optional DLC available for a modest sum. The best approach to getting through this game is to explore wholeheartedly, without expectation. Check dialogue from characters multiple times. Try to walk through walls. Combine things you would never think to ordinarily combine. This game is fun because it frees players from doing what is normal, and just encourages the player to simply be.

ENA: Dream BBQ is a surreal game unlike any other. The retro artwork, unusual music, and completely senseless storyline is a truly unusual combination. While some people make an effort to find meaning behind the storyline, most people agree not to read too deeply into it and just enjoy the moment.

Become the sole criminal partner of a strange humanoid creature named ENA and embark on the craziest adventure through the pieces of decaying reality.

ENA looks like a character from Salvador Dali's paintings and in its insanity is not unlike the aforementioned works of art. One head and many personalities in one incongruous body, help ENA fulfill her boring work chores and get to know her personalities better.
