Get ready for the cutest indie game of all time with Flutter Away. In this charming game, you play an adventurer in the Amazon. This is a casual game for those seeking a zero-pressure way to pass the time, and involves photographing animals in the wild.

While most of your time is spent exploring, photographing, and learning about different animals, the player forms a relationship with a specific animal. A shy capybara lives somewhere in the wilds of the Amazon and has a special secret for you to discover.

Learn about Different Animals

Your journal will help you learn more about the different animals in the Amazon as you explore. It turns out you are a butterfly researcher, interested in the dozens of beautiful fluttering butterflies. If you’ve ever played Amazon trail, this game is like an expanded version of the cut scenes where you look at the scenery and try to discover new animals.

So-so graphics

The 3D graphics are very cute, with warm colors and some detail. The plants and animals are pretty cartoonish, but this looks intentional. That being said, there’s not a lot of detail in anything. There’s no veins or variations on the vines blocking paths on the trails, and the grounds and grass look like watercolors at best.

The developers obviously put most of their efforts into the butterflies. Although the backdrops and other animals are very simple, the butterflies have a lot more detail to them. Players can coax the butterflies onto a perch so they can better look at them, as well as adding them to their journals.

If you were hoping for an immersive experience that makes you feel as if you are in the Amazon, this is not it. That being said, the graphics aren’t terrible, and do the job of letting you explore the Amazon reasonably well.

Soft Sounds and Music

In the demo, the game recommends you turn the sound on for best experience. This is accurate. The game plays realistic sounds of what you might hear in the Amazon, as well as soothing music. The sound is very well developed, and really improves the game.

Not Really Replayable

This is a casual game, and very enjoyable the first play through the game. Although it is certainly worth the money for the first play through, players should know that the game doesn’t offer much in the way of replayability.

What you get the first playthrough is what you have the second and third, with nothing changing to make it worth coming back for more.
