Gutterball 2

There is certainly no shortage of bowling games out there and Gutterball 2 is throwing its hat in the ring! I have played many Bowling games over the years, but for some reason, I never played the original Gutterball. Well, as this one is promising twice the fun of that I am guessing that I have not really missed out on anything. This is a game that was originally released for PC and Mac in the awesome year of 2004.

Become A Cereal Bowler

I will say that this game is rather light on game modes. You bowl, that is pretty much the basics of what you are doing here. You have three lanes that you can bowl on and the idea is that you become good enough so that you can bowl at least a 200 on each one and then Gutterball 2 will reward you by giving you two fantasy-style lanes.

You can either play against the AI, which to be fair can keep you on your toes, but I must admit that in all the games I played, I never actually lost a single one! You can also play with a buddy and there are online leaderboards that you can post your high-score to. I really feel that this game needed some kind of online mode where you can play against another player.

One Ball To Rule Them All

You have a decent selection of bowling balls and it is kind of cool how you can change the stats. These are weight, speed, and spin and while the idea is great, I found that it did not make a massive amount of difference. The reason for this is that this game is so, so easy! You select where you want to throw your ball, flick the mouse forward, and then it goes. What makes Gutterball 2 such an easy game is the fact you can control your ball once you have thrown it! This makes it very easy to nail all the pins, plus if you throw the ball at a slow speed you can easily pick up any spares.

There are three lanes to start with. There is your standard bowling alley which looks ok. You then have a jungle-themed lane and also a Chinese themed lane. These are pretty fun and are far more interesting than the standard lane. You can also unlock two new lanes that have twists in them which is pretty fun and more resembles crazy golf than it does bowling

The Charm Of The Bowling Alley

The presentation is not great, but it is also not bad. This was released in 2004 and I feel that the graphics for the time, for a more budget-friendly title the visuals are more than acceptable. I liked the charm of the Chinese and jungle themed areas and the whole game while a bit on the barebones side is not that hard to look at all. The sound, on the other hand, let me just say you will certainly want to have your own music playing when you are playing this as it sucks!

I know that bowling games are a dime a dozen, but this one while not a bad game of bowling does not do much to stand out from the rest of the pins! I feel that Gutterball 2 is one of those games that is fun to play for a little while. You will probably unlock the two fantasy lanes, play them a couple of times and then never fire up the game again!

Pros:

• I liked the more fun lanes
• The fantasy lanes give the game a crazy golf feel to it
• It is rather fun if you have a friend to play with
• You can post your high-score on the internet

Cons:

• There is not much to the game
• It is very, very easy
