Chicken Invaders 2: The Next Wave

At the time Chicken Invaders 2 Next Wave was released it had been well over a decade since the original game. I know that some will look at the title of this game and turn their nose up at it thinking it is stupid. Well, yes, the game does have a stupid premise, but to me and all the people who like it, that is a huge part of the appeal.

The Chickens Are Taking Over!

The story of the game is a direct sequel to the first game. You saved the Earth from the intergalactic chicken invasion, but now they have their sights set on the whole solar system. They want to take over ten planets including the sun and you need to stop them! This is a lot of fun and I like how Chicken Invaders 2 Next Wave keeps the premise of the first game, but manages to expand on it as a good sequel should.

Wings Of Action

The visuals of the game are very basic, but this is by design. They have a kind of cartoon look to them and I do like what they have done here. The chickens have a lot of personality to them and I feel that they could have made the cinematic as the premise of the game is crying out for it. What is strange is that the game is locked to 30 FPS, it is not a dealbreaker for me, but I am sure some people may have an issue with it.

The sound effects are pretty damn funny the first few times you hear them, but they do repeat quite often. The soundtrack is also quite repetitive, so this is one of those games where you will probably want your own tunes on as you play.

Making An Intergalactic Chicken Royale With Cheese!

The game is set over ten levels and each level has ten stages. Each level is based on a different planet. You have to fight wave after wave of enemies and make it through without losing all five of your spaceships. The game is very similar to stuff like Galaga and Space Invaders. As well as different kinds of chickens that you need to blow away, you have to also avoid eggs, destroy asteroids, and even take part in boss battles. I feel that they did a great job of making as much variety to the gameplay as they could. It is fun, but also very challenging, especially avoiding the asteroids while shooting them!

You can also get your hands on powerups. There are three different kinds of blasters in the game and when you pick one up, you can power it up by picking up another one. Again, the different weapon types help make the game fun and keep you interested in what is going on.

If you like shooters then you are in for a fun time with Chicken Invaders 2 Next Wave. It is not the most spectacular shooter that you will ever play. However, the game is charming, challenging, and above all else, it is a great deal of fun. It is the kind of game that can easily take up a whole evening of your time. If you are looking for a game to play that is a bit more obscure and weird, I highly recommend that you give this one a try as it is a lot of fun.
