Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel

There is no better way to describe Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel than badass. Sure that term is overused as hell, well it was back in my day, kids these days probably have something else that they say. Anyway, this is an action-packed roguelike where you need to survive devastating hordes of enemies while proving your might and worth to the Norse gods! This is freaking awesome stuff and I am so pumped to do this little preview to hopefully get you excited to play the game.

The Favor Of The Gods

The premise of Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel is awesome stuff! We get to play as our chosen warrior and we need to wage war through the nine realms in order to put evil back in its place and defeat the giant bosses. The Norse Gods are not easily impressed so they will be watching very closely to see how we fair. If you love stuff like God of War Ragnarok and Assassin's Creed Valhalla you are going to get such a massive kick out of the story that is woven through all of the action here.

A Little Helping Hand

As you progress through the game, Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel gets even more awesome as some of the most iconic Norse gods such as Thor, Freya and that trickster Loki will make themselves known to you, and if you are doing well enough, you very well may be able to wield their power. Not only is this awesome from a story point of view, it actually adds a great deal to the gameplay as this is a game that is all about feeling powerful and is there a way to feel more powerful than by wielding the power of an actual god?

To Survive Is Hell!

The core gameplay of Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel is just awesome in every regard. I would say that this lies somewhere between Vampire Survivors, Gauntlet, and maybe a little bit of Diablo as well. We get to pick from a few different characters, I liked the smash mouth style of the berserker personally. You have horde after horde of enemies coming your way and you basically need to fight them off and survive until the end of the stage and you work your way up to a boss battle and then head on off to the next realm. What I love about stuff like this is that on one hand, you may feel super powerful as you just smash through the horde of evil coming your way. However, things can get very challenging, if you make a mistake, the wrong kind of enemy shows up, or if you try a new build that is not fit for the challenge ahead!

Feeling Like A God

What is going to make Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel a very addictive experience for you is the upgrade system! You can just plow through and get straight to the boss at the end of each realm. However, it will throw specific challenges your way which if you do, you will be rewarded for. You can upgrade your character with new stuff as you progress and in typical roguelike fashion, you get various perks that you can pick from at the end of a round. You can get very hands on with your character and have a lot of fun messing with different upgrades and perks to see which one is going to allow you to deliver the most damage.

Pros:

• You can really get in there with the character customization
• I love the Norse setting of the game
• There are nine realms to wage war through
• The game has a very cool and badass style to it

Cons:

• Some runs may feel like the whole world is against you
• I cannot see this winning over those who are not into survival roguelike games
