PROJECT: PLAYTIME is a game that a good friend of mine picked for one of our Thursday night online gaming nights. Look, I am old and I have a family, the fact I get a few hours on a Thursday night to game with my buddies is great and I will happily take it. Anyway, a buddy picked this as he knows that we all like horror and I am also a toy guy, I collect toys and this is a multiplayer survival game that blends toys with horror so that is something I thought was really cool.
Talk About Earning A Paycheck
I got a real kick out of the premise of PROJECT: PLAYTIME. There are up to six players who work in this toy factory and they are tasked with finding these important components that are hidden around the factory. The twist is that there is another player who gets to play as one of a few different monsters and for some reason, these monsters are not happy about the work going on at this factory and they have only one goal, kill the toymakers! Hey, it may not be super story driven, but I still dig the whole vibe that this game has going on. Of course, the tie into the Poppy’s Playtime thing that this game has going on is pretty damn awesome if you are into that.
The Bionicle Six
How about that for an awesome toy reference? PROJECT: PLAYTIME has a group of up to six players who are tasked with finding the pieces of the contraption that need to be built. There are different characters with different skills and once again, if you are into Poppy’s Playtime I am sure that you will get a kick out of what they have done here. Working as a team is key here. The thing is, you have a series of puzzles that you will have to solve and this is where your Grabpack comes into play as this is what lets you do what you need to do. There are several upgrades that you can get as you progress through the game and these are all earned in game, there is no BS nickel and diming here.
Monster Jam
Another great toy reference! PROJECT: PLAYTIME also has three monsters that you can play as, again from the Poppy’s Playtime series. Each of the monsters has their own play style which is fun and I did like trying them all out, Mommy was my go-to as I was all about speed. You need to stalk and catch them and there are numerous things you can spend your “toy tickets” on to help make traps and make it more difficult for the other players. Playing as the monster is fun, but I much preferred playing as one of the other guys as I liked working as a team more than trying to kill everyone. Like the other players, playing as a monster does not need you to spend any money, you earn everything in the game.
Style And A Whole Lot Of Creepy Substance!
The overall vibe of PROJECT: PLAYTIME is awesome and like I have said a million times, if you like Poppy’s Playtime, you will love the vibe and whole look of this game. I liked sneaking around and there were a few genuine jump scares and the way that other players can be responsible for those jump scares is really cool. The thing with this game is that while I have talked a great deal about Poppy’s Playtime, I do not think that you need to be a fan or even familiar with that series at all in order to have fun here. You can completely take this as its own thing.
If you are looking for an awesome multiplayer game to play with your buddies, I highly recommend this. Granted it may not exactly have a ton of content, but what is here is great, and the fact that this was the only the game we played the week we all got it tells you that it has something. However, while we did have a blast with it and it did stay in the rotation for a few weeks, we have not been in a rush to come back to it. Still, it was fun while we were playing it.
Pros:
- You have a great selection of characters to play as
- I love the whole design of the game
- The monster characters are all unique to play as
- This is a lot of fun for a multiplayer game night
Cons:
- We had fun with this, but we have not had an urge to play it again
- It could do with a bit more content

Game Reviews
PROJECT: PLAYTIME is a survival simulator that will tell you about the art of survival in a toy factory. Why is the toy factory a deadly place? The largest toy manufacturer was conducting horrifying experiments in hopes of making its toys more real. However, the company has collapsed, and there are revived monster toys walking around the wreckage of former luxury. Can you and your five allies survive?
The game's perks:
- Customize your character and it doesn't matter at all who it is
- Play as a monster or a survivor
