Human Farm

Well, folks, Human Farm could be up there as one of the weirdest games I have ever seen, but man, does the developer make this somehow work. This game is just crazy, but it is such a clever premise, and you cannot help but notice the social and, dare I say, political commentary that is running through this game. That was what actually drew me to it, as the developer specifically mentions an Orwellian world as an inspiration for what this game is all about. With the way things are in many places around the world, this is a very timely game!

The Same…. But Very Different!

The setting of Human Farm is fantastic. I have played games with humanized pigs before; Hogs Of War on the PlayStation was awesome. However, this is something else entirely. This game takes place on an alternative version of our planet, a planet where pigs evolved to walk on two legs and be smarter than humans, and their favorite thing to eat…. Is human! Now, you would think that they could just slice and dice humans and call it a day for their meat, but that is not the case.

Free Range Humans

You see, it is revealed in Human Farm that to get the best out of your human meat, you need to take care of them. This means feeding them, making sure they get enough rest, and that they are happy enough to go about their lives and, of course, reproduce. This is a huge part of the game, actually, making sure that your humans are happy, and this is something of a delicate balancing act. I love the satire and the Orwellian takes on society that the story is telling, and when the full game is released, I am very interested to see how it all plays out and what kind of end there is to this story.

Starting Small

The gameplay loop of Human Farm has you with a rather small slaughterhouse kind of operation. You need to take care of your humans and when they are ripe and at their physical prime. A trip to a chair that may or may not have a special helmet that has a high voltage to it will be the human's reward. You then need to process their body and get the meat ready for sale. You can then sell it to one of the creepy ass looking pigs who come into your store. Granted, this is pretty gross and horrifying stuff, but there is something about making money here by slaughtering those you are caring for that is very addictive…. Capitalism baby!

The Biggest In Town

The progression path in Human Farm is sure to be something that many people find very addictive. You can get new equipment that can make the slaughter process quicker and more efficient, you can build a fancy new place to sell your meat, and in general, create an image for your human meat brand that will have pigs trotting through your store by the truckload! What started as a small one shop business can expand into shipping human meat all over the world!

Pros:

• The Orwellian elements in the story are fantastic
• I got a kick out of the social and political commentary
• The actual human farming aspect of the game is addictive
• This is a very unique kind of game

Cons:

• I do wonder if they will stick the landing with the story
• Once you have gone fully automated, will there be anything left to do?

Human Farm is a simulation of the most unusual and creepy universe in the world, where humans are no longer the top of the food chain. Play as the owner of the largest human meat factory and raise your people and conduct the entire process of preparing meat for sale. Learn about the preferences of your regular customers, keep your workplace clean and reach the next level of trade in this crazy world.
