Water Delivery

I would put Water Delivery right up there with the best indie horror games of 2024. Actually, forget the “indie” part, I would put this up there as the best horror games of the year in general. This is an absolute gem of a game and I hope that it catches on and becomes a big hit! It really needs one of these horror game streamers to give it a chance as I think word of mouth will see this horrific experience spread like wildfire. I had a blast with this and while it takes an hour to play through, it has multiple endings so you do get a lot of bang for your buck here.

“So That’s What Opening A Can Of Whoop Ass Feels Like!”

The premise of Water Delivery is very simple, we play the role of a water delivery guy…. A water boy if you will and we are riding on the truck and it is our job to go and deliver the water and collect the old empty jugs. We are also tasked with collecting payment from the people as well. It is a very simple job, but this rural community has some kind of dark secret and as our shift goes on, we end up finding out more and more about what is really going on. Let me tell you, the reveal in the final act shocked the hell out of me so make sure you do not get anything spoiled for you as far as the story goes!

“Water Sucks, It Really, Really Sucks… Water Sucks!”

The horror factor that Water Delivery has cannot be understated. It certainly has a few jump scares and they certainly got me. However, it is the overall creepiness factor that this game has that really makes it one of the best horror games of 2024. The strange noises, the screams, the crying, the weird ass people, and the general setting all put you on edge. There was a point where I had to walk into a room and I really did not want to walk into the room, but I knew I had to! I had to have stood there for a good 30 seconds or so before I walked in! If you want a horror game that is going to freak you out, this will certainly do just that.

“I Invented Electricity, Ben Franklin Is The Devil!”

Water Delivery is played from the first-person point of view and the game controls really well. I never found myself getting stuck and the whole picking up and dropping off of water jugs, bottles or whatever you want to call them was very easy to do. I guess you could say that the gameplay is “basic” but I feel that is by design as the purpose of the game is to freak you out and it certainly does that. You get to make choices as you progress through the game and the different things you do will dictate which one of the different endings you get. A single playthrough as I said in the intro is probably going to take you about an hour, but you will want to play through this more than once!

“Now That’s What I Call High Quality H2O”

I feel that many indie horror games these days try to go for a retro kind of look and I would say that Water Delivery has a kind of Dreamcast or PlayStation 2 look about it if you get what I am saying. I think that things are too smooth and detailed to be considered a PlayStation 1 game. The game has such a creepy vibe to it and while the graphics do have a retro style to them, this game is still going to scare you and creep you out. This is a prime example that you do not just need blood and guts to freak you out. To be honest, I am kind of indifferent to the whole PS2 retro style some games are trying with their visuals, but this one does it really well.

9.5

By the way, I hope you appreciated The Water Boy references I dropped during this Water Delivery review! Unfortunately, you cannot play as Bobby Boucher in the game, now that would be awesome. However, even without that, this is truly one of the best horror games I have played this year. Right from the start, it managed to get under my skin and the creepiness factor that this game has is something you have to experience to appreciate how well done it is.

Pros:

  • I loved the creepy rural town setting of the game
  • The jump scares got me big time!
  • The whole game has this creepy vibe that really is unsettling
  • I was blown away by the big reveal in the game!

Cons:

  • Some may not like the retro art style
  • Once you have seen all the endings and jump scares, it may not have the same appeal

Game Reviews

Water Delivery is a horror simulator of a regular job. And no, the horror is not about routine and living on a water deliveryman's paycheck. Go into the homes of customers and organizations requesting water from you, pick up empty tanks and leave new ones. Only the closer nightfall gets, the more strange things start to happen in the homes of customers along your route. What could be waiting for you in the homes of people in need of water?

Pros of the game:

  • Different locations with unique inexpressible atmosphere
  • Musical accompaniment all along the way
