Karagon

Karagon is a post-apocalyptic game where you have to survive, craft, and outwit the many robots out to destroy you. The game has been in development for quite a while, with at least two updates to the prologue demo to its name. The prologue dips your toes into the game and gives you a good sneak peak at the game, but just scratches the surface of what Karagon is supposed to be about.

Hard to Get Going

As soon as the game starts off, it becomes obvious that new players will suffer the most when playing this game. There are high leveled robots right outside your base, and they don’t care very much that you don’t have any weapons yet and are basically helpless.

In order to survive you are going to have to stay out of their way and develop new weapons fast! Unfortunately, while this lends excitement to the game, it also has some obvious downsides. If you are unlucky, you can end up in a never ending respawn/die cycle because the enemy is too close and too powerful.

Decent Graphics, Terrible Animation

The graphics on this world are very beautiful. You spawn into a jungle habitat, with vine wrapped trees and waving grass. The actual backdrops are nothing short of stunning, with beautiful details and bright colors. Unfortunately, the animations for the blowing grass are nothing more than a blur moving wind-like across the frame, and fall very short of the beauty of the graphics. This is only a demo, but the animation side of things could really use some polish.

Huge selection of crafts available

You start the game off with an abundance of available things you can create. You’ll start off punching trees to get your materials, Minecraft style, and then move on to using the tools you create with those preliminary items. The amount of crafts available in the preview is exciting, because it is likely that there will be even more crafts added in the completed game.

Crafts are also unlockable. In order to get new crafts, you’ll need to scan robots nearby and borrow from their technology. This is very dangerous at first, a bit like going into a modern war equipped with nothing but a stone spear. Like Ark and Horizon Zero Dawn had a baby

This game appears to have been modeled off of some other popular survival games. You need to survive in extreme and difficult situations the same way you do in Ark, while facing machines the way you do in Horizon Zero Dawn. Together, this makes the game hugely challenging, but hopefully not completely insurmountable.

• Lots of crafts
• Hours of gameplay

Cons:

• Animation is a little underwhelming.
• May be too difficult for new players.
