Kerbal Space Program

I think that it is impossible to look at a video or a screenshot for Kerbal Space Program and not smile. This is one of the most adorable sim style games I have ever seen. Yet under this cuteness lays one of the most in depth creation systems that I have ever had the pleasure to play.

Who Are The Kerbal’s?

The Kerbal’s are a race of aliens who have decided to go and explore the stars and expand their race. The goal of the game is that you need to take charge of their space program. This includes making the ships, space stations, bases and of course making the Kerbal’s are happy and alive is also a huge part of what you will be expected to do.

Three Ways To Play

One thing that is really neat is the way that Kerbal Space Program gives you three different ways to play. The main game mode is the career mode and in this mode, you have control of every aspect of the Kerbal’s quest to explore the stars. This includes making the crafts, getting money and in general making sure things go off without a problem! Another rather in depth mode is Science Mode. In Science Mode, you will be responsible for doing experiments that can help improve the technology and the quality of life that the Kerbal’s have. Then we have Sandbox mode which as you would expect is a mode where you can do what you want. I found that Sandbox mode was really handy in letting me try different things out that I wanted to do in Career Mode.

Rocket Man

The rocket building aspect of Kerbal Space Program is way more in depth than you would think. I know that the cute appearance of these little folks makes this seem like a kid game. However, just a few minutes into making your rocket ship and you will see just how in depth this is. You have to think about everything! You have many different parts to use in order to create your ship and finding the right mix is key. You do it right and the stars are yours for the taking, you do it wrong…….. well you get the idea. This is a lot of fun and I spent a ton of time perfecting my space crafts.

More Than Rockets

As well as rockets, Kerbal Space Program will also require you to build space stations, planetary bases and more! You will also be responsible for hiring the right Kerbal for the job and the way that they each have their own personality is really fun and adorable. Picking the right Kerbal for the right job can make your life a million times easier.

Explore The Cosmos

As you expand and find new biomes to explore and expand to, you start to realize that there is no end in sight for Kerbal Space Program. There is a great modding community (which I have not explored yet) so there is always new and exciting things being added to the game. You never know what your next discovery will be and that along with just how much fun it keeps you playing.

I absolutely fell in love with Kerbal Space Program. It does have a bit of a learning curve, but the game is so much fun you want to stick with it. There is always something to do and the career mode is genuinely very addictive and will keep you on your toes the whole time you play it. I had a real blast playing this game and it is one that I feel anyone who gives it a chance will do too.
