Nearly Dead

You can download a demo of Nearly Dead right now which I highly recommend that you do. As I write this the game is in early access, but it is showing a great deal of promise. This is a retro style mash up of a game that contains, action, RPG elements, survival, and even some crafting too. It mixes all these things up really well and it is the kind of game that can easily become very addictive for the right person. We are taking a closer look at it today so you can get a better idea of what it is all about.

Dimension Hopping Demons!

The premise of the game is pretty neat. When I saw the first trailer for Nearly Dead, I was certain it was another zombie apocalypse type of deal. In a way it is, but the story of the game is that these demons from another dimension have come to our world and they have turned the majority of mankind into zombies and other kinds of nasty things that want to eat you for lunch!

Who Is Behind Me?

The combat in Nearly Dead is very interesting. You can move around in 360 degrees, but there is a line-of-sight system at play so unless you are facing in that direction, you do not know what is coming for you. I like the idea of this, but I can see some people getting frustrated with it. While you start out on your own, you can bring in others to your cause as you fight off these evil beings. At the moment, you are on your own, but as the game moves along development, these other characters that you can join forces with will be added.

More Than Just Killing

While fighting off these monsters is a big part of what Nearly Dead is all about. There is more to survival than that. You also have to build, craft, and grow as well. You will need to create areas so that you can grow food, you will have to go and scavenge for resources so that you can build things such as a shelter. There is a great deal that goes into surviving in this world and trying to manage your time so you are not neglecting any one aspect of it is going to be quite the challenge.

Man, Wolf Or Knight?

The character customization aspect of Nearly Dead is pretty awesome. You do not have to just play as a man or a woman, you can be pretty much anything you want. You want to be a wolfman? Well, go right ahead. You want to be a dude all decked out in armor like you are from Camelot? Go ahead and do that too.

There are a ton of ways to make your character unique, not just in the way they look, but the weapons that you will be picking up as well. The pixel-art style of the game is fantastic and it gives the game a great deal of charm, even though we have all seen this kind of thing many times before.

Pros:

• Demons, the game has interdimensional beings!
• The combat is more skill based than it appears
• It has a fantastic character creator
• I liked building and crafting stuff

Cons:

• The line-of-sight thing may annoy some people
• No word on when some of the extra features will be added
