Samurai Warriors 2: Empires is a hack and slash action video game where you take control of a warrior and participate in battles set in Japan around the 1500s. It expands upon the gameplay of the original Samurai Warriors 2, incorporating various additional features that weren’t originally available. Both the base game and the Empires expansion were originally released back in 2006 on the PlayStation 2.
If you’ve never played a Warriors game and aren’t sure what to expect from the hack and slash genre, be sure to read on as we’re going to jump straight into what the game has to offer.
The base gameplay
Hack and slash games focus on close-quarters combat with melee weapons such as swords and lances, with characters occasionally having access to projectile-based weapons like bows and arrows. Despite the button-mashing nature of hack and slash games, there's still a lot of strategy involved as players can use different movesets and techniques to gain an advantage over their opponents.
In Samurai Warriors 2: Empires, the core gameplay takes place on a battlefield where you take control of a warrior in the third-person view. The objective is to fight enemies and capture their bases in an attempt to push forward and seize the main enemy camp. Capturing bases is done by killing all the generals and captains in the surrounding area and affects battle dynamics – the more bases you capture, the stronger your army will be. Once you push through the battlefield far enough to take control of the enemy base camp, you end up victorious for that particular battle. Creating your own officer
In Samurai Warriors 2: Empires, you have the option to create your own officer to take control of in the actual game. There are plenty of customization options available, including options for skills, special moves, and abilities, so have fun with it and create a character that you're happy with!
Two different game modes
Samurai Warriors 2: Empires lacks its own story mode seeing as there was one in the base game, but instead features both a free mode and an empire mode. Free mode allows you to freely choose your battlefield location, who you want to play as, and who you want to fight against. It’s the best mode for players looking to just jump into a game and have some fun.
Empire mode, on the other hand, allows players to choose from a selection of historical Japanese battles and fight to conquer Japan. It combines slower-paced strategy phases with the standard fast-paced gameplay of Warriors games to make things more exciting and enjoyable.
Samurai Warriors 2: Empires is an awesome hack and slash game that includes plenty of strategy and unique features to keep things interesting. If you’ve ever played any games in the Dynasty Warriors series, be sure to download Samurai Warriors 2: Empires and try it out as the gameplay style is very similar.
