Scheming Through The Zombie Apocalypse Ep2: Caged

Prepare to tap your fingers and plot your escape once again. One of the oddest zombie survival games returns with Scheming Through the Zombie Apocalypse - Ep 2: Caged. We certainly got a few chuckles and an interesting perspective from the genre from Episode 1. Will this point-and-click adventure continue its current trajectory?

If it does, it's arguably not going to win over any new fans. The first episode was released to an audience on the cusp of whether they actually enjoyed it or not. The childish humor, unchallenging gameplay, and poor dialogue were some of the elements thrown into question. Will Scheming Through the Zombie Apocalypse - Ep 2: Caged bring anything fresh to the table?

The Zombie Apocalypse Scheming Continues

While we don't have a solid release date for the game yet, it's not hard to determine from the trailers and sequels that we're going to be getting more of the same. The storyline is by no means terrible for this point-and-click adventure. It's really the delivery that's ever so slightly questionable. The first in the series presented the game as one of those failed pilots' late-night adult cartoons.

Perhaps that's what they were going for, considering it unquestionably has an audience. However, presenting Scheming Through the Zombie Apocalypse to a general audience may find it a bit too crude and simplistic to enjoy. Episode 2 seems to offer the same scavenging gameplay barter, trade, and gamble to progress. And it's really not challenging to complete.

The game's core focus is the dialogue which sounds like playground humor at best. Not to mention, some of the banter gets stale with the repeated use of the 'F Bomb' to try and be funny. If Episode 2 is going to be anything like 1, only the cult classic cartoonists will get anything out of this game. It's hard to see where it's going.

Nuances aside, Scheming Through the Zombie Apocalypse - Ep 2: Caged does have some entertainment value, especially at its price point. If you are a casual gamer that enjoys a bit of silliness, you might like it. You'll probably find it worth what's expected to be a couple hours of gameplay. If you hated the first episode, you might wonder why to bother to continue.

Caged In Its Own Ambitions

For those who need to understand Scheming Through the Zombie Apocalypse - Ep 2: Caged - it feels like the visuals of Plants vs. Zombies meet the gameplay of Full Throttle. The narrative is like Happy Tree Friends, one of those cartoons you either love or hate.

So is it worth adding to your wishlist? Probably not. But again, it's still a refreshing take on a zombie apocalypse story. We will give it that the first episode had a few laughs and ridiculous moments, despite the bland gameplay. I don't think there's a lot to look forward to. But hopefully, I'm wrong.

Pros:

  • The game looks to feature another trove of humorous moments
  • More conversations and choices
  • New characters are thrown into the mix

Cons:

  • No release date for the second episode
  • The first game didn't do the series any justice
  • May only appeal to a small demographic of gamers
