FAHRENHEIT: INDIGO PROPHECY REMASTERED is a twisted and compelling supernatural mystery that raises the bar on interactive storytelling in games. This mind-bending adventure tells the story of Lucas, a man framed for murder who must clear his name. Pursued by the police and constantly left baffled, the truth behind the gruesome killing is much more than meets the eye. Prioritizing the story over action, FAHRENHEIT: INDIGO PROPHECY REMASTERED paved the way for cinematic video games in the modern era, making it a notable and underrated gem.
Main Game Features
- Solve a mysterious case of murder
- Exploration and quick-time event gameplay
- Three unique endings
Set in New York City, FAHRENHEIT: INDIGO PROPHECY REMASTERED starts with Lucas Kane stabbing a man to death in a diner bathroom. Forced to kill by a supernatural power, Lucas immediately looks to prove his innocence. Meanwhile, two detectives, including Carla Valentine, are sent to investigate, cranking up the heat on Lucas. With the help of a psychic named Agatha, he realizes that he was possessed during the murder and must track down the person responsible. Although the story goes off the rails towards the end, it's definitely unique, with a good blend of drama, sci-fi, and mystery. During the story, the player must make different decisions, which will impact the outcome of the game. There are three endings in total to unlock, which encourages you to play the game multiple times.
FAHRENHEIT: INDIGO PROPHECY REMASTERED is a narrative-based adventure that plays from the third-person perspective, with a healthy mixture of gameplay segments, dialogue sequences, and cutscenes. Similar in style to games like Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human, the player moves around the environment, interacting with objects as they look for clues and explore the immediate area. During moments of action, buttons are displayed on the screen, which must be pressed in time to achieve success. In some sections of the game, you'll choose dialogue options to progress conversations between characters, with the choices affecting later moments in the story.
While the game mainly focuses on Lucas, the player also controls a handful of other characters, including the two police detectives. Because of his increased stress and supernatural occurrences, Lucas' mental state will also deteriorate over time, which you must manage. To keep his head clear, you must do your best to avoid stressful situations or fail quick-time events. With that said, most of the big decisions you make are toward the end of the game, so you can still achieve most endings regardless of how you play. This is kind of disappointing, but the general changes throughout the story still make your decisions feel important.
Overall, FAHRENHEIT: INDIGO PROPHECY REMASTERED can be a bit slow at times, but if you like the story, the gameplay should be fun enough to keep going. When compared to modern narrative-based adventures, the game is bare-bones, but it still holds up. As a remastered release, the graphics have been updated as best as possible, sharpening up character models and clearing up the environments.
The mix of mystery and action is a good compliment to the story of murder in New York City, even if things can be slow to start. Despite its flaws, this game was ahead of its time and we recommend you give it a chance!
