Thrillers can come in many shapes and sizes, from a completely terrifying experience to games where there’s tension in every second you play, keeping you at the edge of your seat constantly. The original version of this game came out over a decade ago, and since then it has left fans with questions to seemingly never be answered. Alan Wake Remastered is bringing this incredible story to a new generation of gamers, on modern platforms, and looking better than ever before.
But just what is Alan Wake Remastered all about, and why is the game coming back now? Well, let’s talk about it.
Welcome back to Bright Falls
The bestselling novelist Alan Wake has been struggling with writer's block for over two years now. As the world waits for the next piece in his crime fiction novel series, Alan and his wife travel to a small mountain town of Bright Falls to escape from the world for a while, and hopefully recharge their batteries and have a rest.
But Alan is a little restless about it, as soon before he gets a strange nightmare of shadowy figures trying to kill him in a small mountain town, only to be saved by an ethereal figure that taught the novelist how to use light against the shadows.
As soon as they arrive, the strange vibes and some of the town shake them with an odd feeling. This only increases as they meet the suspicious woman that hands Alan the keys to the cabin they'll be staying in. With their arrival at the cabin in the middle of the lake, things immediately take a turn for the worst.
The nightmares Alan had about the murderous shadow creatures became real, and now darkness took his wife away. The shadows seem to control the town at night, and Alan is about to learn about the stories hidden in Bright Fall, and the secrets that this cabin in the middle of the lake holds. He’ll have to face the shadows if he wants to survive and save his wife.
The original Alan Wake was released as an Xbox 360 exclusive back and later on released on PC. But of course, the PC version was simply a port of the original release. Now we are getting the remastered version of this masterpiece, fully upgraded with new visuals and better performance.
However, we have to remember that there's a difference between remastered and not a remake. Nor does it include anything new that wasn't available for the first game. So if you're waiting for a new game, Sam Lake is going to keep us waiting for a while more.
In the meanwhile, there are some other great titles written by him available such as Control and Quantum Break. Both of these games have an incredible cinematographic feel that made them really unique and special. So if you can't wait for the remaster to be available in a couple of weeks, at least you have those available.
Alan Wake remastered is an incredible and unique game that excels as a psychological thriller. The plot and the development of the story are incredible, as it was to be expected from Sam Lake, of course. The visuals and art direction are to the level of the story and the gameplay. If you love The Twilight Zone and Stephen King, this is the game for you. Looking better than ever before and including all the DLC, such as American Nightmare.
