I truly hope you are ready for Impostor Factory. Wow, just wow. What a truly incredible and unique game that makes for a fantastic installment in a beloved series worshipped by many. Jump into this fantastically realized game that has been perfectly executed and prepare yourself to experience a title like no other, that will stay with you for years to come. Excellent humor, great plot, fantastic dialogue, the writing in this title blows my mind with how witty and amusing it all is. Let’s jump into the surreal, the incredible and the downright frightening, I hope you like your adventure games with tentacles, because this game has got them.
For all intents and purposes, this is a simple pixel style adventure game. It looks like Pokémon but with writing like Lisa: The Painful, it’s a perfect continuation of Freebirds older games To the moon and Finding Paradise. This game is truly unique as you jump into a person’s memories and start switching stuff around and helping them reach their dreams, or making them think they did. Really, the gameplay itself takes something of a backseat to the incredible story.
The story follows several people, Dr. Watts, Dr. Rosalene, and Quincy. Watts and Rosalene are part of a company that specializes in creating fake memories for people on their deathbeds, to help them believe that they achieved their dreams. In this instance, Quincy has been invited to a spooky mansion to attend a fancy party. At this fancy party, there is also a time machine in the bathroom, seems careless to put it there but here we are. AS you would expect, people start dying shortly afterward because that’s what people do, but its up to Quincy to discover just what is going on here. I found the writing in this game to be absolutely fantastic. It’s sort of hard not to use profanity when expressing my love of it. I had a truly engrossing and memorable time in this brilliantly story crafted with love.
Oh, my goodness. The visuals in this title have really been pushed to a whole new level from the previous games. I always find pixel art sacrifices a lot of nuances when conveying physicality’s of the characters, but this game does not seem to suffer from that problem at all. Everyone is fantastically realized and show so much through what they do.
Everything from simple body language and reactions to watching Watts put his lab coat on with the swishing coat tails is somehow incredible engrossing to watch. You never feel like time or expense was spared when making this game as lovely as they could.
I was blown away by the quality of this title time and time again, it is an absolute must play. And play their previous games while you’re at it.
