Nintendo has some big games due out in 2022 and one of the biggest is Splatoon 3. It feels like it was forever ago that Nintendo teased us with this and actually as I write this it was the better part of a year ago! Since then, Nintendo has shown off a bit more, but many details are still left as a mystery. Still, as this is one of the biggest games for the Nintendo Switch, I thought it would be fun to take a look at what we know right now. I was a big fan of the game on the Wii U and thought that the sequel was even better so my hopes are pretty sky high for this.
The Return Of Mammals
I am very pleased to say that Splatoon 3 will have a campaign. As much as I loved the first game on the Wii U, the lack of a meaningful single player mode kind of sucked. The campaign here is called, Return of the Mammalians. While we do not know any major details about the story just yet.
We do know that it is about the return of mammals and that one of the locations in the story is a place that is called, Alterna. The whole game is bright and zany as you would expect from Splatoon and the whole thing from the sound, the characters, and the visuals is all just so typical Nintendo and I love it!
Nintendo is keeping their cards fairly close to their chest when it comes to the game modes, which we can expect in Splatoon 3. However, Nintendo has confirmed that Turf War will return. I have to be honest; this is the only mode that me and my friends play when we are playing Splatoon 2. Turn War is just so much fun, you are part of a team and you win by covering as much of the level in your team’s ink as you can. It is the kind of thing that sounds so simple, but it is so addictive and so much fun that you will always want to have just one more game. While having Turf War back is great, I do hope that we get some more info on what new game modes we can expect. I would expect there to be some kind of capture the flag or capture the point game modes.
Loading Up Your Loadout!
Again, Nintendo are not giving anything away here, but they have said there will be new main and special weapons added to the mix in Splatoon 3! I love the idea of this, but I must admit that I will probably have a hard time deviating away from my basic paint roller and bombs combo that I like to use. The thing with Splatoon is that they do not bombard you with things when it comes to your loadouts. I know that in a “shooter” that sounds like it would be limiting, but in the case of this game it actually works. While I am excited to see new weapons, I do hope Nintendo goes for quality rather than quantity.
We already know that in 2022 Nintendo have Splatoon 3, Breath of the Wild II, and Pokémon Legends. It is shaping up to be a great year for the Nintendo Switch. I think that this new Splatoon game is arguably the most exciting of the bunch. The way Nintendo built on the first game with Splatoon 2 was amazing.
I am expecting more of that here, but I actually think this is going to bring even more craziness to the franchise which I am very excited about.
- It is more Splatoon and that is great!
- I think the new campaign sounds like it is going to be a lot of fun
- It is just as bright, colorful, and crazy as ever!
- This is one of the best and most fun multiplayer shooters around
- I hope that the campaign is a decent length
- Nintendo are being very coy about the other game modes!
