If you’re in the market for an action-adventure game with awesome aesthetics and fluid combat, then be sure to keep Strayed Lights on your radar! It is set to release on April 25th of 2023, and there is currently a demo available on Steam! With the trailers we’ve seen so far, it’s shaping up to be an exciting and impactful experience!

It’s listed as a "souls-like" game, likely due to the ‘dodge and parry’ combat style. Fans of God of War, Sekiro: Shadow Die Twice, and Dark Souls should keep a close eye on this title.

A Light in the Dark

You are but a small, glowing being of light. The world you’re thrust into is very atmospheric and dark, highlighted with glowing nature and environments. There are broken down ruins and overgrown forests that are ready to be explored. You are on a "journey of awakening" as you explore the world around you and fight giant creatures made of shadow.

Fluid and Familiar Combat

Listed as a "Souls-Like" game on Steam, fans of the dodge and parry style of combat will thrive in Strayed Lights. It will be imperative that you learn your enemies moves, especially as you progress and the bosses start getting bigger and hitting harder!

Another interesting aspect of combat is the color matching mechanic. Adjust the color of your energy to match that of your enemies and absorb some of the damage dealt. However, there are times when they will use corrupted energy. This cannot be avoided, so it’s best to dodge it all together!

Character Building and Growth

Strayed Lights offers multiple ways to build your character. With abilities to choose from, you can build your character in a way that suits your playstyle. Gain a sense of power and progression as you face the inner demons that are thrown your way.

Outstanding Soundtrack

One of the big hype points for Strayed Lights is the soundtrack created by Austin Wintory, who is known for his work on Abzu, Journey, and Banner Saga as well. Described as "haunting", his music really sets the tone here. With the world being so detailed and heavily stylized, the music is the final piece of immersion that truly brings it all together.

Personal Rating 8/10

As of now with the demo we have available, we give Strayed Lights a rating of 8/10. Of course, this is a work in progress as we await the full game's release. However, with what we’ve seen so far, the outlook is optimistic. The environments are moody, stylized, and begging to be explored. The enemies are the shadows of your own self and the corruption of the world around you. And it’s all brought together with an outstanding and skillfully written soundtrack.
