TEVI

TEVI is a bullet hell metroidvania game featuring the main character, Tevi, as she explores the world of Az. The game also features a huge cast of other characters, as well as Tevi’s sidekicks Sable and Celia. Progress is made throughout the story by acquiring sigils, potions, and other valuable items.

Beautiful Graphics and Sound

The graphics in TEVI are beautifully done. There’s a mix of pixel art, which is beautifully made with detailed sprites, and 2D drawings for the cut scenes. The animations are very smooth. The music is also beautiful, and the entire thing is fully voiced.

This is nothing short of miraculous, considering just how much talking there is in the game. Dialogue can go on forever at times, with the developers pushing banter to the point of being tedious at some points.

Blah Storyline

Unfortunately, the beautiful sound and art can only take a game so far. TEVI is supposed to be an exploration game, but there’s no incentive to do so. Explore a side road and at most you can find a potion or two. All of the important items, sigils and bosses are locked behind the story. After a few punishing rounds of dead ends and worthless efforts, most players stop exploring the admittedly beautiful and well fleshed out world to follow the story quest.

Tevi is supposed to be a sequel to Rabi-Ribi, but where as Rabi-Ribi managed to avoid this exploration bottleneck, Tevi falls flat.

On top of this, the story isn’t all that interesting. The game oversexualizes characters to the extreme, which unfortunately creates the opposite effect. Fortunately, the extensive dialogue can be fast forwarded through, or the game would be very tedious to play.

Great battle sequences

If you don’t mind these problems, the game is fairly good. Battles are fun, bosses are creative, and there is a huge variety of sigils that offer some customization to your character. If battle is all you care about in a game, Tevi is a fun romp that will keep players busy.

Lots of Achievements

Sometimes fights and story are what keeps people playing, but other times it’s the fun of getting all the achievements in a game. Tevi has a whopping 100 achievements to find, and along with the hours of story available, this game is sure to keep you busy for a long time.

Tevi isn’t a bad game, but from the developer of a game as well-done as Rabi-Ribi, it’s disappointing. While the action of the game is exciting, gameplay mechanics are smooth, and the art is beautiful, the game has huge problems.

Despite being billed as a non-linear exploration style game, story-locking nearly all the major bosses and items robs it of that joy. There’s no incentive to explore, and so the beautiful and rich world created by the developers is largely lost on players.
