Space Cats Tactics is a tactics game about space marine cats! If that right there does not grab your attention, I have no idea what the hell will! This is a very deep kind of game that has a fun story, engaging and very challenging combat, and a whole lot of stuff for you to manage. It is the kind of game that is going to keep you very busy and for the right kind of player, this could end up being one of the most addictive games of 2023! I do also want to give a shout out to the fact that this game is made by a single developer!

Cats Standing Up For Themselves!

The premise of the world that Space Cats Tactics is set in is a very interesting one. You see, many years ago mankind had the great idea to create these cat human hybrids in order to fight wars and pretty much be their slaves and this went on for quite some time. Eventually, as you would expect, the cats grew tired of this and fought and obtained their freedom from mankind, but there are still some major tensions between the two sides.

A Scruffy Looking Nerf Herder!

One thing that I got a huge kick out of with Space Cats Tactics is that the character we play as is a cat called, Captain Mitzi and we are pretty much this universe's version of Han Solo and that is awesome! We have been hired to smuggle this ship to the far corner of the galaxy and we just want the payday so we accept the job. However, there is more to this job than we thought and soon we have agencies on our tail and a whole bunch of people that want us dead! The game describes its story as that of a “space opera” and that is the best way to look at it.

Using Your Cat Smarts!

The space combat stuff in Space Cats Tactics is really going to test your skills and hopefully, you have some Han Solo like maneuvers to survive each battle. This is a grid based tactics battle system. You have a certain amount of action points to use in each term and it is up to you to decide what the best way to use them is be it a straight attack, using a special ability, or using something to give you a buff or heal. It is the kind of game where you really have to think before you act, but there is more depth yet to come!

Only As Strong As Your Crew

While we pretty much play as the cat Han Solo in Space Cats Tactics, we also have a crew to manage and we can switch between the space battles and managing the stuff on our ship in real time. Here you can make your chances for victory better by sending certain cats to certain rooms of the ship to help give you an edge in battle! It makes for a very interesting dynamic and adds another layer of strategic thinking that is required to advance through the game.

If you want a space tactics game that has a style all to its own and a pretty epic story for you to play through, Space Cats Tactics is exactly the game that you have been looking for. I love the whole vibe of this game and think that the story is way more epic than many people are going to be prepared for. While the gameplay is very deep and there is a learning curve here, I do not think it is to the point where it is overwhelming so there is a lot of fun to be had here fighting enemies and managing your cat crew on your ship.

I thought the crew management aspect was a nice twist
Those of you who love tactics games will have a lot of fun with this game

Cons:

It does require that you enjoy tactics games to get the best out of it
With it just being one developer I hope that they are able to update the game frequently
