Phantom Brigade

To say that Phantom Brigade is cool and badass is a massive understatement! There are not many mech strategy games that can claim to be as awesome and as unique as what is on offer here. I do have to warn you that as I write this, the game does not have an official release date, but there is still more than enough to look at here as we see what makes this one of the most exciting strategy games to be released in a very long time.

Taking Back Your Home!

I love how story driven Phantom Brigade is. This is taking the strategy genre and making a real cinematic spectacle of it. This world has been taken over and there is one last line of defense, a special team of mechs that is the last line of defense. They need to take back their home piece by piece, using the enemies’ own facilities and gear to turn the tables on them. I love the whole sci-fi setting and think that this is going to be very exciting to play through.

A Real Hybrid Of Styles

The thing that I find most alluring about Phantom Brigade is the gameplay. I have played a ton of turn based and tactics style games over the year, but I think what they are doing here is very unique and interesting. It is a turn-based style of game, but it all goes down in real time. This forces you to really think about each move that you make and then when you hit the button to make it all happen, you get to see how your stuff works… or does not! It is cool stuff, and challenging, but if you are smart and plan right, you will feel like some badass military leader.

Picking The Bones Of The Mechs At Your Feet

As you would expect from any game that features cool mechs, customization is a huge part of what Phantom Brigade is offering. The amount of weapons that you can get in this game is just staggering, we are talking stuff like railguns, laser beams, energy swords, missiles, defensive measures, and much more. All of the stuff you get on the battlefield can be used to upgrade and customize your mechs so that they suit your playstyle. Playing around and tinkering to try and find the perfect loadout is always a great time. I could honestly spend a ton of time just playing around with my mechs to get them just the way I wanted.

The Perils Of War

While finding all the stuff to customize your mechs is great. Phantom Brigade is a very challenging game as they are trying to make you feel like your back is against the wall and you are certainly the underdog in this war. For example, your mechs are not the only thing that you need to take care of. You also have to manage your base as well, your rather meager resources mean that you have to be smart about what you are using them for! It makes for a very challenging, but fun time.

Pros:

• I love the sci-fi story that is being told here
• It has a really cool way to customize your mechs
• The gameplay is deep and challenging
• I like how you really have to think about what you are doing

• I am sure the learning curve will be steep for some players
• When will they announce the release date for this?
