Gameplay

So, this gameplay focuses on two primary fronts; exploration and combat. This is somewhat par for the course in dungeon crawlers, but this game has a bit more of a unique delivery than many. Labyrinth of Galleria has an exploration system not dissimilar to Danganronpa, where you are seeing everything through a first-person perspective, but zip around from corridor to corridor with no ability to slow down or check before you do. It does keep things interesting by preventing you from overpreparing for every battle. I appreciated how spontaneous much of the fighting was.

In regards to the combat, I found it much more similar to Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 than many other games. You collect a party full of capable warriors and traverse the dungeon, battling the many monsters you will encounter while dealing with environmental challenges as well. These are real dungeon crawls which means you will have to prepare at the start and then spend most of the game making your way through the complex, not being able to take many rests. Your ability to complete these gauntlets rely entirely on your ability to prepare properly and manage your people and equipment. It’s a fantastic challenge, and a real homage to the genre. If you want a dedicated dungeon crawler, this is the game to go for. With over 50 hours of exploration, you’ll really feel like you’re in there.

Visuals

Visually, this game is pretty simple. The monsters are a sight to behold and are arguably the most interesting part of the environments. Beyond those, many of the hallways look very similar and this actually works to the games advantage, as these are, of course, Labyrinths, and they wouldn’t be labyrinths if they were easy to navigate.

The characters are all fantastically designed with unique looks that can be altered on a menu. This game provides multiple different outfits and color schemes for each character which allows for a degree of replayability, but primarily allow for you to switch things up if you have a preferred team color or if you think someone would suit a different scheme a bit better.

There are over 40 fighters for you to pick from, allowing you to take your pick of people and create a roster of characters that you really want to fight through this game with.

Music

The music in this game is fantastic, and offers you the soundtrack you really need when battling through a dungeon infested with crazy mythical monsters. There is a track for every scene, and the developers haven’t spared in making sure they are all unique and well-made.
