The Shoot

Have you ever dreamed of making your own movie? How about starring in it too? We have good news for you, since The Shoot is an exciting on-rails shooter that puts you in charge of making big-budget Hollywood movies. Acting as both the co-director and lead actor, it's your job to blast through a variety of action-packed movie sets as you attempt to make the most explosive flick ever! With its fast-paced gunplay, replayable levels, and simple controls, The Shoot is an entertaining game that anyone can pick up and play.

Main Game Features

  • Thrilling on-rails shooter gameplay
  • Five unique levels based on movie genres
  • Supports single-player and local two-player coop

Story

In The Shoot, you are a promising actor working in Hollywood, looking to secure your next big role in a major motion picture. Working in the action genre, it's your job to make every scene as explosive and over-the-top as possible in order to appeal to the director and other crew. In the game, you must blast your way through five unique movies, ranging from a slasher flick to a sci-fi epic, as well as a classic Western and a few other surprises. Explosions are aplenty and there's frenetic action everywhere as you blaze through each scene, becoming a full-blown action hero by the end of the credits. Regardless of the notably linear progression, The Shoot lets you live out your fantasy of being a movie star. That said, the storytelling is very minimal, as the focus is on the action instead of the characters. Generally speaking, the premise serves as a fun way to guide you through a number of unique locations, spotted with references to popular films and franchises.

Gameplay

The Shoot plays much like other on-rails shooter games such as Time Crisis 3 and House of the Dead: Overkill, tasking you and your partner with racking up a high score as you shoot down enemies. However, the game is presented in a family-friendly fashion, as enemies are cardboard cutouts instead of actual monsters or humans. Regardless, it's still tons of fun to gun down your targets and watch them explode into splinters. Unlike other arcade-style games, The Shoot does not have a traditional health meter or lives. Instead, you must make the director happy by pulling off accuracy combos, dodging damage, and shooting past friendly targets. If you mess up too much, you'll waste a take, forcing you back to the most previous checkpoint.

That said, you'll always be attempting to maintain your accuracy, as the game rewards you with special shots and abilities for your efforts. This includes powers that can turn the tide of battle, including the screen-clearing shockwave blast or the rampage power-up that increases your firing speed. To dodge enemy fire, you can also take cover or even spin around and slow down time. The game can be played either solo or as a two-player team, but you'll have to coordinate shots with your partner to maintain a steady combo. An additional challenge mode can be unlocked if you find all of the poster pieces hidden in each level, which provides an extra boost of difficulty for those who want it.

Conclusions

The Shoot is a great game that calls back to classic arcade shooters and it's plenty of fun with a partner. Unless you're shooting for full completion, the game will only take you a few hours, essentially running as long as your average Hollywood movie.
