Trifox says that it is inspired by the classic days of 3D platforming games and that right there got me very excited. That along with its awesome cartoon kind of style and its 90s attitude! While this game is not complete as of me writing this, I still wanted to spend a little time talking about this today as it looks like it is going to be all kinds of fun. If you like platformers, keep on reading and see why I and many other people who are into these types of games are excited about this.

Where Is The Remote

I love the premise that they have going in here with Trifox. The title of the game is also the name of our heroic little fox. He just wants to kick back and watch TV, but he cannot do that as his house was broken into and his TV remote was stolen. He is the kind of guy who is not about to take that kind of disrespect so he is making his way to villain HQ to get it back!

3D Action Platforming

There are four game worlds in Trifox that we can explore. I am a little concerned about this as they have not revealed how many stages are going to be amongst these four worlds. Still, what I have seen so far looks like a whole lot of fun. In a typical classic platforming style, you have plenty of areas to showcase your platforming skills, there are all kinds of hazards and pitfalls that you need to avoid, bosses, to fight and even puzzles to solve. On the surface, it looks like your typical classic platforming game, but this one is a bit “classier”.

Showing Your Class

While they have said that Trifox is inspired by the classic 3D platforming games, this actually has a class system. There are three classes that you can pick between in mage, engineer, and warrior. Each one has its own playstyle, strengths, weaknesses, abilities, and so on. However, you can also mix and match, creating a build that is perfect for your playstyle. There are also many abilities that you are going to be able to unlock during the game too. In many regards, I feel that what they have on offer here is verging more towards RPG territory than a platformer.

A Tude Filled Toon

I really like the whole style that Trifox has going on. In many ways, the whole attitude of the game reminds me of the classic 90s cartoon shows that I used to watch. It is nice and bright and I would have to say that the game I feel it resembles the most is Super Mario 3D World, I mean this in terms of the way the camera is, it is more like that than a game like Super Mario 64 for example.

If you like platformers, Trifox is a game that you have to make sure is on your Steam wish list. I wish that I could tell you when the game is going to be released, but it has had “coming soon” on the Steam page for a while now, but from what I have seen it looks like the game should make it out in 2022.

Pros:

I like how the developer says they were inspired by the classic platformers
The game has some nice and colorful visuals
I like how there is a class system and RPG elements here
I am sure this game is going to be a whole lot of fun to play

Cons:

There are only four worlds, but to be fair we do not know how many stages/levels per world there will be
I like the RPG elements, but this might not be cool with those wanting a more traditional platformer
