Voids Adrift

If you’re trying to enjoy a video game that puts a lot of the experience directly in your hands, Voids Adrift is a great title to get that feeling from. This Player Crafted Adventure game is one that focuses on allowing players to move around and engage with players.

Synopsis

In Voids Adrift, you start out in the Void salvaging ships from sunken lost ships as you build your way into the sky where you get to live out your days, until you’re eventually sent back into the void.

You will start out in the pitch black void area as an ashy and thick fog is rolling about you. The only things in sight are some faintly glowing shards all around you with some metals floating around them. Meanwhile, you’ll need to use a torch to scavenge up some metals near the closest shards. Thanks to these resources, you’ll be able to craft components to create a basic raft and float out of the darkness on your boat.

Eventually, you’ll spot an island and travel there to finally have some land to rest up on. On this island, you’ll spot a group of Dwarven creatures called the Fwaran who welcome you with a cautious greeting. They talk of something dangerous living in the desert called the Bransellian. They also eye you suspiciously wondering what to make of your character. The question then becomes, “will you help them?”

You hear murmurs about travelling to the snow. Also, the tools needed to win a war are there. The war in question is pretty interesting to ruminate about. Impressive steam ships also chug along nearby like trains in the sky and billowing clouds above. As you stare back at your dinghy, you’ll begin to wonder if it’s time for an upgrade to a new frame, or if you should instead choose to slap on some new engines and get going.

Gameplay

In Voids Adrift, you’ll get to enjoy a skill tree of various fighting styles along with gunplay skills, swords and bombardier as unique play-styles.

Additionally, the game also allows you to see dozens of players roaming around its world makes it feel truly alive in a sea of supposedly multiplayer games that do not have that level of immersion when encountering new players. An example of this is in a title like No Man’s Sky. When that title was originally released, there wasn’t much to see in terms of multiplayer gameplay. Similarly, Valheim is a game that allows you to explore an island with your friends.

Power to the players

As a Player Crafted Multiplayer title, Voids Adrift is an entirely self-determined experience. It’s one of those titles that will be best enjoyed when played along with your regular group of friends. With the inclusion of a level editor, you can even go beyond the conventional experience by creating a unique playing field for you and your friends to enjoy.
