Wanted: Dead

As soon as I saw Wanted: Dead, I knew that this was a game for me! This is just so awesome, it is made by a team who knows exactly what they are doing when it comes to action games! The pedigree behind this game is amazing and I feel that is shining through with each and every trailer that they put out before the game's release. I am really pumped to share my thoughts on the game with you guys. They say that this is a love letter to sixth generation games and at first, I was a little confused by that, but I have to say, now I get it.

A Week In The Life

In Wanted: Dead, we play the role of Lt. Hannah Stone, she is part of an elite Zombie Unite in Hong Kong that is there to keep the peace and try to keep the streets as safe as they can be. There is something going on in the city and before long, we are thrust into this big conspiracy that involves tough mercenaries, evil gang members, zombies, and much more. This is a cyberpunk style story and I love the way the story is presented to, it has a kind of cheesy, 2004 vibe about it that I get a real kick out of.

A Gaiden Of Combat!

Remember, how I said that Wanted: Dead had one hell of a pedigree behind it? Well, this is actually made by the team that brought us the Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden games during the original Xbox days! I feel that you can tell as it certainly has that kind of style about it and I mean that in the most complimentary manner. The hack and slash combat here is very much reminiscent of the first 3D Ninja Gaiden games. You have tons of awesome moves that you can use so while it is hack and slash style combat, the variety and the spectacle of it all makes it never boring.

This Is My Riffle!

As well as the hack and slash style gameplay, Wanted: Dead also features 3rd person shooter combat as well. You have some pretty badass weapons to use and the gunplay feels great. However, what really makes the game tick is when you unleash these huge combos where you go from hacking and slashing, shooting, and back and forth. It makes for a combat system that is very addictive and a lot of fun. Plus, this is deceptively difficult, but not in a bad way, it just means that you have to put the work in to get good at the game.

Finish Him!!!

The whole game just has a really badass style to it. However, with a title like Wanted: Dead you know that there is a whole lot of killing here and as well as dishing out those epic melee and shooter moves. You also have these epic finishing moves as well. To be honest games like this have been using finishing moves for years, but these ones have a ton of style to them and fit the whole vibe of the game very well. It is just another piece of the puzzle that makes this such a fun and exciting game to play.

The action genre has been on absolute fire the last few years and this is another standout title. I have a feeling that Wanted: Dead could be an early contender for action game of the year! I am surprised that there are not more people sounding off about this as it truly is one of the most stylish and cool looking games to be released in the first part of 2023.

  • The story is a cyberpunk action story and that is cool
  • I love the presentation and the way the story unfolds
  • The combat system in the game is fun, addictive, and badass
  • The finishing moves are freaking awesome

  • Will this be more style than substance
  • The difficulty may be off putting for some people

Game Reviews

A game that has been described by its developers as a love letter to the sixth gen consoles, and a hybrid that combines in a spectacular manner the gameplay of a hack’n slash and a shooter. Wanted: Dead is a third person action game for the Ps4, Ps5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC. If you're a fan of action games, this sounds great... Even more knowing that behind the project there are former members of Team Ninja, a studio responsible for developing some outstanding titles back in the day. This project presented itself as a very ambitious game, but that can get a little troublesome in the long run. So, does Wanted: Dead deliver for all it promised?

In a world…

With the typical cyberpunk storyline featuring cops with robotic arms and ninjas with optical camouflage, Wanted: Dead introduces us to the typical plot of megacorporations taking control of the country based on conspiracies and paramilitaries loaded with exoskeletons.

The game introduces us to Hannah Stone, a former lieutenant in the Allied Forces who has been sentenced to life imprisonment for violations of the military code. In the purest Suicide Squad style, she receives freedom thanks to a government rehabilitation program in exchange for working as an agent in the Hong Kong Police Department. A city that is about to experience a crisis that only her unit can face... And one thing is for sure: a hail of bullets is coming.

The cyberpunk setting is well-executed, with detailed environments and character designs that immerse players in a gritty, megacity. The story, while not groundbreaking, is engaging enough to keep players invested in Hannah's journey and the overall conflict. The plot does not pretend to tell much more, but we were surprised that it does take care of its characters and gives charisma to Hannah, her companions, and even to some villains.

A solid mix?

According to its makers, 110 Industries, Wanted: Dead is what happens when Ninja Gaiden and Cyberpunk 2077 have a child. Of course, being a hack’n slash, we can’t leave out Devil May Cry, is inevitable, as both games share similar gameplay mechanics and themes. However, Wanted: Dead stands out with its more tactical approach to combat and the added layer of shooting mechanics. Players who enjoy the fast-paced action of Devil May Cry but crave a bit more depth in combat will find Wanted: Dead to be a satisfying alternative.

Review: 7/10

Wanted: Dead entertains and we know that many players will know how to keep the best of its approach and even turn it into a "guilty pleasure": its main asset is, plain and simple, to do today what was quite common in 2006.

It is a production to disconnect the brain from the infinite maps full of icons, unload adrenaline, participate in carnage without remorse or change the chip for a while with karaoke.

  • Seamless combination of hack'n slash and shooting mechanics.
  • Personalized combat style through weapon and ability upgrades.
  • Immersive cyberpunk setting.
  • Engaging combat system.

  • Storyline lacks originality.
  • Can feel repetitive in long play sessions.
  • Minor technical glitches present in some versions.
  • Limited enemy variety.

Wanted: Dead is a cyberpunk third-person shooter where a nimble girl with a tattoo on her neck shoots special forces of the future and chops their bodies with a katana. The release of Wanted: Dead was expected by the whole world!

  • Control a charismatic girl. The main character is a cyborg with no loss of humanity.
  • Break through crowds of heavily armed enemies. Use assault rifles and grenades. Fifty cool body movements in your arsenal - be fast and stealthy
  • Upgrade skill branches: defense, attack, tools
