Bakugan: Defenders of the Core

Bakugan: Defenders of the Core is an epic action-adventure game based on the Bakugan Battle Brawlers anime show. The graphics, gameplay, and story are all fantastic, and if you grew up liking Bakugan then you should definitely check this game out. Now, let’s talk a bit about some of the features you can expect to come across in this game.

An action-packed story

In Bakugan: Defenders of the Core you’ll be collecting core fragments, meeting quirky characters, and fighting various battles on your quest to save the Earth from the evil villains Zenoheld and Spectra. Seeing as the story is based entirely on the second series of the original Bakugan anime, you can expect to see some familiar faces if you watched that. Though the game is based on the second anime series, it’s worth noting that you’ll be taken through a completely new story arc that wasn’t covered in the show. If you’re a hardcore Bakugan fan you’re no doubt excited to hear this as it means all new content to explore and enjoy!

Bakugan battles

The battles in this game take place in arenas and are very similar in style to what you’d see in a fighting game such as Dragon Ball Z Budokai or Pokkén Tournament. The aim is to lower your opponent’s health to zero using a variety of attacks while avoiding incoming attacks at the same time. Every Bakugan also has access to a special move that deals heavy damage, though this can only be used every so often once an ability card is charged up.

It’s worth also noting that depending on the type of battle, defeating an enemy may not actually be the only objective. When duelling in battle mode you need to only defeat one enemy, but most story mode battles, for example, will require you to destroy Vexos Crystals to finish the fight otherwise enemies will keep re-spawning. Just make sure you’re aware of the win conditions when you enter a battle otherwise you may be stuck there for a while.

A wild variety of Bakugan

As you progress through the story mode, you’ll find a variety of different Bakugan figures in chests scattered about which you’ll then be able to use in battle mode. You’ve got unevolved figures, evolved figures, and even Vexos Bakugan figures, so be sure to play the story mode through in its entirety so you can collect them all.

Pros:

• Polished story mode exploring a new side of the Bakugan universe
• Great battle mechanics with controls that are easy to pick up and use
• Awesome graphics and soundtrack

Cons:

• The voice acting isn’t the best and could’ve been done better
• If you’re not familiar with Bakugan, you may find the story and a lot of the game’s elements boring
